NBC would like to "morph" Brown and Morales together... who wouldn't?

Campbell Brown and Natalie MoralesTVNewser has some quotes from a TV Guide article describing NBC's efforts to groom a possible replacement for Katie Couric. The pertinent detail: MSNBC's Natalie Morales is close to signing on as a full-time correspondent on Today, which will get her more airtime.

But the best quote is about NBC's choices if Couric happens to bolt to CBS: "While the charming Morales is a favorite within NBC News, Weekend Today co-anchor Campbell Brown has more experience in hard-news reporting and would also be a serious candidate to join Matt Lauer on the weekday show. Says one person familiar with the talks, 'I think they would like to morph Natalie and Campbell together.'"

Well, why wouldn't they? With Campbell's hard-news chops and sparkling personality, and Morales' engaging style and eyes you could get lost in, NBC would be able to create an über-anchor that even the iconic Couric would have difficulty beating.

Alas, the technology to create the Borales (or should it be called the Nampbell?) hasn't quite been perfected, so we'll just have to see which of these standouts wins the position next to Lauer. That's if Couric leaves, which as the daily updates we're given testify, isn't a done deal by any means.

I love Natalie. No she's not overly Perky. She has just the right personality. Campbell is okay too but I love Natalie. Both ladies are very smart and very pleasant.

Tammy, you don't have to worry about Alexis Glick. She's been "reassigned", to put it gently.

I am tired of Katie so that's fine with me if she's gone. I'm tired of the show always having to be about her. She's just not the same person she was years ago.

Personally I love Campbell Brown and would love to have her as the replacement. I think she's great when it's serious news and charming when it's a light hearted segment. She's goofy and doesn't mind being a little bit of a geek. She was great with David Gregory if ever Matt should want to leave. David is very goofy and he could be the "perky" one if we have to have that.

I am not a huge fan of Natalie or Alexis. Natalie is perky too and I'm just tired of perky. I think Campbell's personality really works well with Al, Ann and Matt.

Well, in any case they'll be hard pressed to replace 'The Perky One'.
