Biased or not?

by Adam Finley, posted Feb 24th 2006 12:47PM

tim russertThe "liberal bias" of the media we hear so much about was called into question recently with a study released by Media Matters which claims that Sunday morning political shows such as Meet the Press, Face the Nation, and This Week  tend to have more conservative guests than liberal. Of course, some are arguing against the study. NBC argued that during Clinton's term in office there were also slightly more Republican guests on Meet the Press. The point, I suppose, is that it's not necessarily dictated by who's in office. Also, there's the question as to who's really conservative and who isn't, especially when it comes to centrists like John McCain and others. My advice? Tune into The McLaughlin Group, a show where everyone is equally a raving lunatic, no matter their political affiliation. Or, go to the zoo and watch spider monkeys fighting each other. It's pretty much the same either way.

RE: Michelle Bachman on "Face The Nation". The lady is daft! I don't know how Bob Schieffer kept a straight face when she defends "abolishing minimum wage". Has she ever had to work at a low-paying job? And tried to support a family? Her take on "Obamacare" could have been written by the Tea Party and editted by the RNC; the so-called 800,000 job loss probably includes the millionaire managers of the pharmaceutical industry. Sorry guys I'll be glad to see you go - you'll have more time to count your ill-gotten gains.

i get up early on Sunday morning to watch "Sunday Morning" and "Face The Nation.".

JimK, you have similar partisan organizations like that on the Right. The Family Research Council, NewsBusters a project of the Media Research Center & Parents Television Council these three are headed by Brent Bozell.

Last July, the FCC received 23,547 complaints, 23,542 of them were from were from the PTC. So let's get this straight, 5 complaints from everyone else in the country, and the rest 23,542 from the PTC. How convenient..

MediaMatters is staffed by rabid partisans under the thumb and purse strings of George Soros. They're not in any way to be trusted to be fair about *anything* political.

I don't see how the media is "liberally-biased" as so many "conservatives" have argued.

I'm a Republican myself, but I fail to see how the news media is unfair and unbalanced.

If anything, I notice how fair and balanced Fox News is about giving news and it's more biased than any other news show that I have seen.

Incidentally, I personally believe that news shows should be UNBIASED because I want to hear FACTS NOT opinions about news.

If I wanted to hear about opinions, then I would ask for them myself from my fellow peers.

I think what really plays in the media, is that they consider themselves the protector of the helpless and ignorent. And since these people tend to be democratic, it is seen as a media bias toward the liberal and democratic establishment.

When you bitch and complain about the so called "liberal media bias" as long as Conservatives & Republicans have, you tend to get the general public to agree with you more and more. Then you point to that belief by the general public in that falsehood as if it is true. Were all the Conservatives living under a rock during President Clinton's second term? Would you call all the reporting during that time as "liberal media bias"?

Bill Kristol: "I admit it," he told a reporter being interviewed in 1995 by the New Yorker. "The liberal media were never that powerful, and the whole thing was often used as an excuse by conservatives for conservative failures."

I hit send a little quick. As far as the study in concerned, it matters little whether the guests are liberal or conservitive. What matters is how they are questioned by the interviewers.

I wouldn't call them irrelevant. While a lot of America doesn't watch them they are one of the few places that long form interviews are done on a regular basis.

These shows are quickly becoming irrelevant, so does it really matter? I vote for the spider monkeys; they're not quite as full of themselves.
