Bristow is back!

by Jonathan Toomey, posted Feb 27th 2006 3:22PM

Sydney BristowAfter Bob reported that ABC hadn't placed the final episodes of Alias into the midseason line-up, I think most people (myself included), were how do you say it? Oh right, "pissed off."

However, it now seems that ABC has gone ahead and decided to air the last hours of one of the greatest shows on TV. That's right - Sydney, Jack, Sloane, and the rest of the Alias gang return in April (according to our friends at SpoilerFix.com, April 19 to be exact) for a two-hour midseason special. According to the report, which started with Kristin at E! Online, the two-hour return will be followed by four more hour-long episodes and the series will come to an end with another two-hour explosion sometime in May.

Now on paper, this sounds great, right? Alias is coming back! Wait! Except, that if these numbers are right... then we're getting an extremely shortened season. Normally Alias, like most other hour-long dramas, runs for a 22 episode season. If we're getting only 8 more new hours between now and the series finale, that means this season clocks in at only 17 hours. Can't say that I'm too pleased about that. We've had only nine season five episodes so far (I double checked here), so eight more makes 17. Well... at least it's coming back right? Maybe this will all change and we'll get more?

[Thanks to Susan for bringing this to our attention.]

My daughter got me interested in this serie and I really have enjoyed it. I think Jennifer Garner is a healthy role model for young women in the way she stays in shape and has some muscle, albeit shapely. Jennfer is quite a healthy contrast to all the anorexic super models in the media.

I think the spin off idea is great. In fact, I thought that Rachel was being groomed as the new alias super spy?

I feel the same way I really like "Alias"! And this is a show that is one of a kind where you even like the bad guys and girls also. We raely get a show on Primetime that has that. It could be Jen being a first time Mommy that she's giving away to some quality time for the 1st year of mommy-hood and for that I aplaud her! and also her love for us to tape these shows for us in between that's a wonderful image of a star!!

Although only a television show, Alias has been a treat to watch and stay involved in since it first aired in 01. It paved the way for me to dare to watch other fine programming such as 24, Lost, Invasion, Prison Break...the serial drama is back and we all have Alias to thank.

I too am upset at the series end. I think this is a wonderfully unique and original show. (I mean, really...how many Law and Orders and CSI's can they come up with)

I was hoping for a type of spin off with the new girl and Naudia as the super spy girls. I think that could be a winner.

Why stop the creative juices?!

i had never been so upset before in my life then when i heard that alias was cancelled. as pathetic as that sounds, i am one of those die-hard, dvd-buying, jj-lovin fans who just can't get enough of this show. gimme an episode title and i can tell you the season, plot, and any guest stars in the episode. 8 more hours is not enough. It pisses me off that JJ is OK with just abandoning this amazing show for LOST and that upcoming Friends-wannabe show with Barry Watson. What the hell does that say for his work ethic and morals?! Way to lose a fan, JJ!! Disappointing.

Maybe they need all the 5 episodes missing budget for the 'big series finale'

Well, if they want to show us the rest of the season in the normal show format, maybe they'll show us the second to last episode, then flash back to the six before, then show us the second to last episode again, then the last. There's your nine, in perfect Alias format.

I am pleased it will return but upset that ABC canceled this excellent show. I love all the characters and the intrigue and the format of the show. Big mistake cancelling the best show on TV.
