New programs for March 1-3

free ride foxThere are a TON of new programs coming up in March. I was going to do one post with all of them but it is so long, I don't think anyone would read it. I sure wouldn't. So, I'm breaking it up, week by week.

This week, only three new shows hit the schedule. By mid-march, this list will be much longer.
  • Free Ride, Sundays @ 9:30 pm on FOX (premieres Weds, March 1 @ 9:30 pm)
    • Part scripted, part improvised, Free Ride is about a son who returns to his parents' home in Missouri after graduating from college. Interesting cast member: Mr. Allan Harvey, one of the pioneers who had a show on Comedy Central when it was just a start-up network.
  • Spying on Myself, Wednesdays @ 10 pm on A&E (premieres March 1)
    • I'm betting people didn't realize what they were in for when they signed up for this one. Willing participants are disguised and then they set out to talk about themselves to find out what their family and friends really think about them. I'm guessing they get their feelings hurt, otherwise where's the entertainment?
  • Conviction, Fridays @ 10 pm on NBC (premieres March 3)
    • Novice Assistant District Attorneys deal with workloads, judges, and victims in NYC. A preview is already available on iTunes.

Interesting side note, the crazy mullet character from Free Ride was at the NASCAR race in California this past weekend. They talked to him on the pre-race show. Instead of interviewing the actor, he stayed in character the whole time. Points for doing something different.

Wow, I hope this doesn't stink for Allan Havey (yes, his name is speeled wrong). I loved him on Comedy Central on his Night after Night show. That show was great, loved the audience of one. I still consider it one of the most refreshing things I've watched on TV. Good luck to him!

A Boy Named Mole

Free Ride
The Loop
The Unit
Conviction

I have added these to my watch list, I've seen the pilots for all except Free Ride, which from the commercial previews seems rather amusing. However, in the long run can I afford to invest time to watch these shows (FOX especially) when they may suffer the same fate as Kitchen Confidential, Jonny Zero, Arrested Development....

That spying on myself show sounds like utter crap. Forget all the other things, I find it very hard to believe that a) anyone can talk to friends/family members in disguise and not be recognized, and b) that said friends/family would have an open discussion with a stranger about someone close to them.

I remember MTV doing a similar thing where they'd set someone up in a contrived situation and have friends/family casually spy and observe, but they'd be put in "supporting" roles in the situation like wait staff where people inherently pay less attention. Sitting down and having a conversation with someone, even if they're in a fat suit, is a completely different story.
