The Bachelor: Paris: Finale

by Deidre Woollard, posted Feb 28th 2006 1:58AM
If you had to choose between the good person, the person who made you feel cuddly and content and the person who captivated you even though you couldn't explain why, who would you choose? That's the choice for Dr. Bland, otherwise known as Travis. The final two are the feisty and emotionally raw Moana and the perfect doctor's wife, Sarah.

First up we have Sarah meet the parents. She does a great job charming the children and Travis's sister. She plays everything right and it's so deadly boring to watch. If she says she wants Travis one more time or that he is perfect for her I may throw something at the screen. The entire group just seems so dull and restrained. That's all set to change when it's time for Moana's meet and greet.

As Travis says "Moana is a slightly different personality than Sarah." He says he does not hope she can make a better impression than Sarah, only that she can make an equal impression. The second his family meets Moana it begins to rain. Even the weather gods know this is going to be a rough day for Moana. Moana talks to Travis's sister and the sincerity of Moana's affection moves his sister to tears. She is much more emotionally present and real than Sarah.

You'd think that the little girls would go for the kindergarten teacher but little Whitney actually prefers Moana. At dinner, the family grills Moana on why she and Travis should be a good couple. Moana is the exact opposite of Sarah. She has no answer at the ready and just freezes. The parents then take Moana aside for a quick quiz which again makes Moana cry. Her emotional nature is definitely her undoing.

Filler central as the moms fly in and the girls go diamond and dress shopping. Then it's time for the last dates. I still can't call it at this point. Sarah and Travis have a sweetly cozy perfect date that would be perfect for a couple has been married for a few years. Travis and Moana have an edgy flirty date with a bit of awkwardness and a bit of kissing.

They show Moana first and he lets her down fairly gently. She is completely shocked. He explains that the reason he is not choosing her is because he doesn't know where they would have taken their relationship next. Moana looks physically ill as she is in the limo. They should have a friend or family member in the limo to comfort the loser. She says that good girls always win and that guys like him don't choose girls like her. She's right, she deserves someone with a lot more pep than Dr. Bland.

Sarah shows up for her rose with more makeup and cleavage than she has shown the entire season. They declare their mutual perfectness for each other. Travis gives her a ring on a necklace. Otherwise known as the not-proposal. Yawn. They may definitely be a couple which goes the distance. They are as they have said over and over, perfect.

I just saw the finale on tape. I thought the Bachelor program had finally found two people with depth in Travis and Moanna. Half wrong. Travis said he yearned for a life of adventure - that he planned to leave Nashville and live in the mountains - so why did he choose the woman who wanted to go back to Nashville to live happily ever after? Y'all have said it in prior posts. He was out of his comfort zone for too long. Has anyone noticed that the women (except Jen) have been able to follow their hearts more honestly than the men? I'm not surprised that Travis and Sarah broke up. There was no magic there. I wonder if Travis & Moanna have gotten back in touch? I won't waste much time trying to find out - they deserve some privacy. I hope Moanna is over him. I agree with the post above, that the show should allow the "loser" to have a friend or family member in the limo to comfort them (both contestants' guests would have to come to the final rose ceremony - one could celebrate with the "winner"). The show wants and needs real emotion in order to hold the audience; it owes the "loser" more than a limo ride! I say "loser" in quotes because I cannot think of Moanna as anything but a winner, a woman who was able to show us - and Travis, too bad he couldn't handle it - a genuine, smart, cultured, funny, talented, exciting, adventuresome...woman who is a credit to our gender. No, I don't want to see her as the Bachelorette. ABC doesn't deserve any more of her time & talent.

I don't know if this article is accurate, but Travis may have broken up with Sarah and gotten back with his former girlfriend of five years:

I cant believe that Dr.Blind chose Sarah. I thought he was looking for love, fun, sincerity and adventurous llife. Moana was very emotional because her true feelings were out for anyone to see. What a pitty to chose Sarah because his family could not see or understand why Moana could not express the depth of something that can only be understood when it is experienced. NO WONDER, it most be that BLINDNESS COMES IN THE FAMILY.

I wish in shows like this, the producers could be more sensitive to the impact on those particiipants who are truly involved. If one is chosen from 3, it would hellp to deal with the "broken hart".

I was hoping all along that Travis would make the right decision and choose Sarah and I am so glad he did. I do think that Moana was over the top, way too deep, putting way too much pressure and responsibility on one man's shoulders for her own happiness. There is no way that in the short amount of time that they spent together, that she could have seen her soul shining back from his eyes. What is that? For a girl who never had a problem spilling out long lingoes of cheesy romance novel talk, she couldn't "articulate" something so simple as her reasons for being attracted to Travis. I think Travis must have felt that he was drowning in her misery, and chose Sarah as a breath of fresh air, and as someone who has a good handle on reality.

Any word on the status of Travis and Sarah? No press, no celebrity coverage, nothing on the news or internet, or magazine cover? Are they still together? Will Moana be the next Bachelorette? That's usually the case. May be it's still too early since the program just concluded. I'm no prophet, but just maybe Moana will be the next Bachelorette and Travis will be the surprise guest and try to win her heart again!! DREAM ON. That only happens in the movies.

My hats off to Sarah for "winning." In fact my hats off to all the women who would subject themselves to such treatment. Here's another scenario: Moana will be the next Bachelorrette and Travis will make a surprise appearance trying to win her heart after realizing his mistake.

Those fans of Moana....are you serious! She was so fake and needy! oh my gosh! as far as Dr. "Boring", guess what he is NORMAL! He and Sarah are NORMAL people with normal jobs and lives. Those of us living in the real world like to see nromal people on TV once in a while! I hope that they make it.

Are you serious? How can anyone really judge which girl is best for Travis? The editors lead you to think whatever you think about each girl. None of us knows what goes on when the camera isn't rolling. Can you imagine a camera in your face on every date? Although it's called reallity TV, it's as staged as any scripted show. Let's hope Travis & Sarah live happily ever after.

I was very surprised when the Dr. chose Sarah. Throughout the show she was just so terribly boring, and safe, and seemed like a little girl who hadn't really become a woman yet. But I felt that way about the Dr. too. That he hadn't really blossomed at all either, so maybe they are a good match. Moana took Travis to places he'd not been before, and that was just too unsafe for him. They had a great connection, and would have had a good life but it might have meant leaving behind his parents opinions, his job, his life as he'd lived it. Moana was too good for this show, and I hope she finds a place where she can grow and where she's not pigeonholed and rejected. I hate saying bad things about people, but Sarah was such a complete bore and such a safe choice. I was very disappointed because I thought Travis might have had more of an edge to his character and taken a risk. Most disappointing season for me so far.

After Travis' decision, I acutally felt sick to my stomach. I wish I could get inside his head and find out why he chose Sarah over Moana. When Travis and Moana were togehter sparks were flying everywhere; where as with Sarah it seemed so fake. Was Moana just a challenge for him or did he really care about her? To be honest, I thought that Moana would have been sent home 4 episodes before the final one, but the guy or the good doctor kept giving her a rose. Then the show got really interesting and Travis and Moana were the only people I wanted to see. Moano does not have an emotional problem, she was scared and hid her true feelings. She finally started to trust Travis and eventually opened up which led her to tears. So she choked at his parents' home (nobody is perfect). I think the reality of the whole thing finally hit home for her that for the first time she fell in love with someone she could spend the rest of her life with. Travis will have a lifetime to regret his decision. And Moana will come out a winner.
