Foster's, Birdman, and other things of interest to me

by Adam Finley, posted Mar 1st 2006 4:02PM

foster's home for imaginary friendsIf you're a fan of Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, I have good news for you. First, the show will be back for a fifth season. Second, although there doesn't seem to be any listing on Amazon for it just yet, a "best of" DVD will be released this year. This information was buried in this article over at Toon Zone, which also lists a plethora of new shows and renewals over at Cartoon Network. Being an admirer of Craig McCracken's work, this was the tidbit that caught my attention.

Also of interest to me: Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law has nine episodes left in its contract. It's unknown as to whether or not it will continue beyond that.

Your right about billy west. Although West did do the voice of Invader Zim in the Pilot(they have similar voices so sometimes I get them confused)

Yes. G-tor, Foster's has only been on the air for a year-and-a-half, but since Cartoon Network orders a maximum of 13 half-hours for each season (or in the case of Foster's Season 1, 10 half-hours and a 90-minute 'movie'), if they have a hit and the producers can keep up (and McCaracken is using the latest computer animation toys for his 2-D show), they'll order two 'seasons' a year, and because of the well-known Animation Lag Time, they order new shows 6 to 8 months in advance. Right now, there is one more episode of Season 3 yet to premiere, then they'll start showing Season 4 in May, then Season 5 in the Fall.

And, sorry to correct you, but the voice of Billy on "Grim Adventures" is done by Richard Steven Horvitz, who previously was Invader ZIM and one of the Angry Beavers for 'another network'. He's also going to play Rodney the Squirrel in Edward Peck's "Squirrel Boy" for CN; good to see him getting back into rodents.

I like Fosters, but I didn't realize it has been on for 4 seasons already! Thought this was like season 2.

And yes Billy and Mandy is hilarious. It sucked pretty bad back when it was mixed up with Evil Con Carne. That show was lame. Billy West does the voice for Billy(funny huh?) but I always saw him as being more like Stimpy because of that. Although I can see where you get Ralph Wiggum.

By the way there really is a http://www.shnissugah.com

Hey, slightly off topic, but I just discovered "The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy." Yeah, I know I am about 3 years late to the party, but I am doing my best to catch up. Now one of my favorites shows on TV.

Sure, Billy is a Ralph Wiggum rip-off, but who doesn't love Ralph Wiggum, and want to see more of him?

Anyway, am I in the minority in my love for this show, or am I helplessly behind the times. 'Cause I thought I knew about all the "it" shows, but apparently, I have missed a few.

I'm a 24-hour sucker for anything Craig McCracken lays his hands on, but since I don't have cable I'm stuck taking what I can get (i.e. DVDs and friends' houses), so obviously I'm stocked to pick up Foster's on DVD. I watched a marathon of it while I was on vacation last summer and fell head-over-heels for it.
