Gilmore Girls: Bridesmaid Revisited

by Joel Keller, posted Mar 1st 2006 12:36AM
Gilmore Girls generic pictureI started noticing not too long ago that my hands would cramp up while I was typing my Gilmore Girls reviews. There's so much happening in each episode, that the recaps were starting to get very, very long. So, let's see what happens if I just review an episode for once; I mean, most of the people who're reading this have already seen the episode, right? Why recap it? Anyway, I'm going to give this shorter format a whirl; let me know if you want the recaps back. If you do, I'll just have to make an appointment at my local hand rehab clinic first.

OK, not much happened in this episode: Rory finds out that Logan slept with his sister's entire wedding party while they were "on a break" (never thought I'd quote Ross Gellar in a GG review), Lorelai has daughter issues, namely wanting to know Luke's and wanting Christopher to discipline his, Paris hits bottom and comes back out, Lane and Zach get engaged, and Kirk is on a juice diet.

What's that you say? I totally glossed over the Zach and Lane thing? Well, that's because it seemed like Zach, Lane, and the band were going to inevitably get back together. Yes, the proposal was a bit of a surprise, but not much of one. It was nice, though, to hear Sebastian Bach utter the word meshpuchah, even if he did mispronounce it (it has something to do with a bat mitzvah and maraschino cherries... oh, never mind).

An episode of parallels: Christopher now knows how Lorelai felt when he left her with a baby twenty-one years ago... Lorelai wants to mom someone again, be it April, G.G., or someone of her own... Doyle, who the despondent Paris booted out, drunkenly nuzzles a drunken Rory out of loneliness but she doesn't realize that Logan's booty calls were virtually the same thing... Lane gets engaged while everyone else's love lives fly apart. Oh, and Kirk's strange. But you knew that already.

Oh, one more thing: society girls can really be a bunch of cocktail waitresses.

Really, this episode was just another day in the world of Gilmore. No big surprises. Some funny lines and interesting scenes, though:
  • Rory getting ready for her journalism panel by bopping to Sonic Youth's "Kool Thing". Most people Rory's age have no idea who Sonic Youth is, much less have Goo in their CD collections...
  • Lane telling Lorelai that she photographs as "so Asian", and Lorelai telling her "Well, I think Ming-Na has that same problem." Ah, nothing like references to former ER cast members.
  • Lorelai: "Dud?" Christopher: "Sure". Then as Pompous Princeton Guy speaks, Lorelai asks, "Should I Dud him?"
  • Lorelai to G.G. as they watch Full House: "I think the Olsen twins weigh less now than they did on that show."

ummm... i don't what most of you are thinking but Logan a perfect fit for Rory? What the hell? think back to the old and real Rory the girl who loved to read and listen to music, now Logan is a drunk, cheats on her, and is totally wrong for her. He is a bad influence (did Rory ever think about stealing a yacht before she met Logan, i think not) Jess was perfect for her and his smart remarks priceless ... i agree Dean was boring and predictable ... it is time Rory finds someone who has the same interests as her

Logan is a match for Rory intellectually and socially. He is really nice-looking and can verbally spar with her very well. However, he does not share her work ethic and her basic values, things that are really important to Rory. (This could become much more evident on down the road.) He might not have the life he wants, but he certainly enjoys many of the more luxurious aspects of the life he has. He could buck his father, but he would have to leave behind his lifestyle. Does he have the character to do so? The jury is definitely out on that one, and I think it isn't likely. They might reconcile and eventually marry, but it isn't likely to last.

I can't believe everyone thinks that it's alright that Logan slept with atleast two girls while on "break" from Rory. Maybe he didn't owe her anything then, but it is so despicable. I think it shows true colors.

I just found this site and love it. I wasn't crazy about this latest episode (or of the last 3). Something seems to be missing. I do mis seeing the grandparents -- there is so much more to explore between both of them and Loreali (and, even moreso, between them and Rory after her moving out). I am sick of Logan -- deep down, I never excepted he and Rory as a couple. His squinty-eyed expressions and constant "Ace-isms" never seemed genuine. Her relationships with Dean and Jesse were far more compelling and in keeping with her character. I'd like to see some more of Suki and Lane's mother, too.

BTW- That script part was from the episode "The Perfect Dress". I got it from here-

Go almost halfway down and you'll see it. It's in the newsroom at Yale.

I'd just like to prove something. You know when Rory said they weren't broken up? Which to her qualifies as Logan cheating. Well, Logan certainly thought they were, and apparantly, so did Rory.

PARIS: Oh, great. [Rory turns and sees Logan coming in the door.] I got a call saying your boyfriend was going to be coming back.

RORY: He's not my boyfriend anymore, Paris, we broke up.

Thank you to Twiz TV. He never cheated on her. So, rightfully, she's being a bitch. Not that I don't love Rory, she's great, but she's obviously forgetting how she felt. So HA!!! Logan is in the right, as far as I'm concerned.

Logan's the best guy Rory has come across of. I mean, it was just a reflex for Logan to go off with some girls. He was hurt, because he obviously adores Rory, and he needed something to distract him. It's like near the end of the show when Doyle kissing Rory's neck. It's a reflex for guys, I would guess. But if you haven't dated or talked or did ANYTHING with your past beau, you're basically broken up, or at least taking a big break. Logan's never done anything to hurt Rory. He hasn't lied to her or cheated, despite some opinions that are truthfully just dumb, and that whole thing with Jesse? Pure jealousy. Because he cares so much about Rory. Honestly, I think Logan's the only guy Rory should pay attention to.

BTW- Marty? Yeah, he's gone. He was way to timid and self-concious. Rory's somewhat like that, but she needs someone who's lively and optimistic. Hence Logan.

They should bring back Marty. He's a cool kid. Logan's a filthy rich brat who loves himself way too much. What a jerk! I do think that Luke really needs to wake up and see that Lorelai needs to be a part of April's life, especially if they really do plan on actually getting married, which will definitely happen at the end of next season by the way things are going.

Am I the only one who thinks Jess is the best for Rory? maybe I am... I hate all the other guys. Logan's not bad, but he is... I don't know... I just don't like him.
