Sneak peek at the new season of Top Model

by Lacy Hall, posted Mar 1st 2006 10:31AM
model logoThe new season of America's Next Top Model is just a week away, and I got to sit in on an online press conference with Jay Manuel, Nigel Barker and Ken Mok (Executive Producer). But before we get into the new stuff, let's settle some old business. Namely, the great mystery of who ate Bre's granola bars. While nobody on the panel had any evidence (i.e. video footage), Ken Mok nabbed Jayla as the culprit. He wouldn't divulge details, but he said that because of "her previous behavior" producers think it was her who stole Bre's granola bars. I remember a few of you readers had Jayla pegged as the culprit too. I just wonder what Ken meant by "her previous behavior." Did she steal more than just granola? And what are we talking about here -- like camera equipment or tampons? I need details, Mr. Mok, in order to gauge her level of thievery. You just can't trust those home schooled kids. I know I never leave my granola laying about when one is around.

Other than the granola revelation, the panel was mum about a lot of specifics regarding next season. In fact, they seemed to create more questions than answers. I can tell you that on the two-hour premiere, the girls will be bald for their first photo shoot. But nobody would say whether the girls would actually be bald or what? We were given the "you're gonna just have to watch and see" canned answer. I would bet a million dollars that they don't actually shave the girls' heads. No, make that a billion dollars. If Gene Hackman wouldn't even shave his head to play Lex Luthor, then I doubt Tyra is going to put a razor to a crop of aspiring models. This has bald cap written all over it.

We also learned that Janice Dickinson will make a cameo on the premiere. She's going to be leading the girls into a press conference with E!'s Todd Newton, Trey Smith (Will Smith's son), and some other TV gossip reporters. I'm tired of all these Janice cameos; why doesn't she just come back to the panel?

If you want to check out the crop of new girls, click here. It's a great pic of them all sporting their mean model faces. Although, it looks like that one black girl on the left is trying to sneak in a smile. She must be the rebel of the group. Go ahead, girl, you smile.

By just going on the superficial information given on the website, I am going to pick Furonda as my favorite girl. Not only is her name fun to say, but she's the only girl that listed several items on each one of their "Favorites." And her favorite food? Corn. Who says that corn is their favorite food? I think that's hilarious. I only wish that she would have gotten more specific because there are a lot of different kinds of corn. Corn-on-the cob, creamed corn, corn niblets. Alright, I just went all Bubba Gump Shrimp-style. I'll stop.

Finally, I don't know what is up with the cheesy tag line this year, "Fairy Tales Come True." It should be, "Where Bitches Steal Your Granola Bars."

Check out the premiere of Top Model on UPN, Wednesday, March 8th at 8 p.m.

It's been speculated around the ANTM online community that the "going bald" preview means that they're going to get bikini waxes during the first episode.

You said that the models in the picture are sporting their "mean model faces".

Does anyone have an idea why the "mean" look is supposed to be so important for modeling. While watching last night's show I started to laugh because these beautiful girls were stomping up and down the runway sucessfully looking like goblins smashing grapes with their feet.

What's the psychology of this? What's it all about"

Too bad Project Runway and Top Model are on different networks. I would like to see them team up and the model and designers end up in double jeopardy. You know the designer makes it past Heidi, but the model doesn't and they are both out!

BTW, did you see the designer's Tshirt for Project Runway? They are nice, but not a "Where's Andrae?" or a lobster motif anywhere. If there was I would have bought one in a heartbeat.

This set of girls doesn't look that special, but I am guessing the photo was made before the makeovers. Wonder who is going to get all their hair chopped off and cry like a baby this year.
