Project Runway: Waiting & Working
I wish it was next Wednesday already. I want
to know who is going to win this thing! I thought that this episode was going to be a lot of filler and flashbacks, but
they actually did a great job building the narrative thread (as far as a reality show can do that.) I'm not
sure how I felt about the nicer and friendlier Santino. See what happens when someone watches themselves on TV and
reads about themselves on the Internet? They start to pussy-foot around things. I liked the old Santino! We all loved
the old Santino! Apparently, Santino doesn't want to be the man that everybody loves to hate, but he should. It's a
great gig. Afterall, regardless of who wins or loses this season, everyone is going to remember Santino. And did you see the pic of toddler Santino dressed a sailor? Ha ha ha! That was too adorable for words. With any luck, he'll post it on his blog. (By the way, that great Star Wars pic is from Santino's blog. It was sent in by a fan, and has been circling the Internet.) Also, as a constant purveyor of fine mustaches, I was really impressed with his dad's 'stache. It was a good manly mustache and I dug it. I also enjoyed seeing Santino's life in LA. It was much less pretentious than I would have thought. (Other than him visiting his tattooed model/photographer friend with the gorgeous Asian children. That felt very LA.) But other than that, I was surprised by the calmer Santino. I guess it's the pressure. I'm not sure. I absolutely loved that dress that they kept showing. It was gorgeous. THAT is the kind of stuff that we want to see from Santino -- daring, yet beautiful. We always knew he could pull it off.
And Daniel was typically Daniel. I love the guy, but he is totally the anti-Santino. He's so mellow. Not Daniel Franco mellow, but just very metro cool. I would love to have Daniel as a friend and I'm excited about his designs. The stuff that he showed Tim in the apartment looked amazing, but later in the show I was bored by what he was showing. He got really pissed off by Tim's reaction, but I totally could understand Tim's facial expressions. It all just looked so boring. Very wearable, but boring.
Chloe's stuff was completely ridiculous. When Tim came to Houston to visit her I was really worried. She didn't have anything done. And...no sketches? NO SKETCHES? That just seemed crazy. And was anybody else surprised by Chloe's mom. She seemed so quiet and demure compared to Chloe's natural vivaciousness. I guess having 8 daughters and being locked in family jail can do that to you. When Chloe pulled out that one bridesmaid's dress from hell, I almost threw up on my remote control. Strike that. I DID throw up on my remote. Yuck! It all just looked like a big joke. It was so weird. During the show, Santino designed this crazy stuff and now he seemed to calm down, while Chloe went bonkers.
The final twist was heart-wrenching -- 42 hours to design another outfit. It was horrible to see Chloe standing there crying. Even Santino looked like he was going to have a breakdown. Why didn't Heidi just take out a knife and stab them all in the chest? But was there ever any doubt that Nick was going to be the first one that someone scooped up as an assistant? By the way, I loved Tim's little jab at Nick while him and Daniel were outfit shopping -- "what, you don't want Nick to design your blazer?" There are a lot of great gay men on TV, but Tim is the best.
I wasn't surprised at Santino picking Andrae because Andrae is a great designer. Plus, it gives Santino more opportunity to put his Tim/Andrae/Red Lobster bit to work. But I was shocked at Chloe picking Diana. Well, I went from initial shock to....well, she is very creative, to....but she's annoying as hell! Going by the previews for next week, it looks like Diana is going to drive Chloe a little bit nuts.
Next Wednesday is the big finale. Who do you want to win?
