Scranton loves Dunder-Mifflin

Scranton Loves Dunder-MifflinDid you know that Dunder-Mifflin, the fictional paper company featured in the U.S. version of The Office is actually a member of the real-life Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce?

Well, now you do. This AP article details how the people and business owners of the Pennsylvania city have embraced the show, to the point where business owners are lobbying to get references to their stores into the show. The article even speaks to fellow WIN blogger Dave Caolo of TUAW fame, who is tracking Scranton references on the show as a guest blogger on the website LifeInTheOffice.com.

It's a fun read about a small city on the comeback. Now, I wonder how well Slough took their portrayal in the British version...

My family rents a cabin on Lake Wallenpaupack every summer. This summer when I go up there, maybe I'll pay a visit to the Dunder-Mifflin paper company :)

Scranton is a nice little town. I vacation in the Poconos, and visit Scranton occassionally.

I loved the "booze cruise" episode for referencing Lake Wallenpahpac, which I took a boat ride on for the first time last summer (I can't imagine it being much fun in the dead of winter).

Maybe it's just me, but it seems that 'The Office' is becoming a bit of a phenomenom around these United States. It had just a quiet premiere last season, and it has just exploded this season. Granted, it deserves all of the kudos, but I don't want it to go overboard and create something that will actually ruin the show.
