Survivor: Panama: Episode 5

by Deidre Woollard, posted Mar 3rd 2006 12:07AM
The starvation ends! The Survivor powers-that-be must have decided our tribes are looking too scrawny because they are finally play for food and both teams get a little something to take home. Instead of singing for their supper, the tribes have to toss their food to each other and chop up fish. Bruce can't hack through a large fish and slows down the team. On the next catch he drops the fish giving La Mina a one fish lead. But Sally can't catch a fish which gives Casaya the lead and they win reward. La Mina chooses to take beans as their food (I'd hate to be around that camp the first night) and Terry gets sent to  Exile Island again. So far the Exile Island idea doesn't really seem to be much of a game changer. While he's on Exile Island Terry frets that his tribe isn't taking good care of themselves. He seems to think that he is the father of a set of helpless children who can't survive without daddy. On the list of Survivor sins, overestimating your own importance ranks pretty high but he hasn't had a chance to learn that yet.

After the challenge, Casaya finds their camp flooded. They've got the food but no way to cook it so it's sashimi time. Of course even good fortune doesn't end the ceaseless infighting. Rewards of alcohol always bring trouble because someone is bound to take more than their share. This time Bobby drinks the last bottle of wine with Bruce which drives Courtney nuts. Bobby is his usual surly self basically challenging anyone around to dislike him. Meanwhile over at La Mina, those beans were a bad idea felling Nick and Austin.

Once again the challenge involves puzzles and diving. La Mina takes a strong lead but nearly screws it up at the last moment with the help of the lovely but klutzy Sally the Spear Loser. I was worried that Cirie would be the immediate target at Casa Dysfunction, but everyone wants Bobby gone except for Aras who angles for Bruce. They agree on Bruce and Shane tells Bobby what's going on. Shane begins swearing on his child again to create an alliance with Bobby. Bruce, not knowing he is target for eviction, gets pissy because Courtney is doing yoga in his rock garden. A ladies alliance seems about to rise. Danielle brings Shane into the girly colloquy but since he swore on his kid now he's in a jam.

At tribal, Jeff talks about the wine. Bobby still refuses to apologize for drinking the wine. He only apologizes for how people feel about it which is of course no apology at all. Aras leaps to his defense and attacks Bruce who is just a tiny bit more apologetic. Still he seems to be morphing from strong zen master into cranky old man with every week that passes.

The voting is a total mixed bag Courtney, Bruce, Bobby and Aras each get a vote but it comes down to Bruce and Bobby and Bobby gets the well-deserved ax. Jeff says something about how the honesty shared during tribal may bring them all closer. Has he been watching the same tribe I have?

My Survivor of the week is the wily Danielle for deciding that they don't have do whatever Aras says. Often proposed female alliances fade quickly, but this one might have a chance.

Next week, La Mina looses the immunity, and goes for the pre-merge move of voting out terry. OOPS! Personal immunity.

I am agree with TAMMY
why do they want to help people find the idol?
so far, only 3 people were sent to exile island.
once you've been there and know what to expect...it's easy (well, for Survivor)

"While he's on Exile Island Terry frets that his tribe isn't taking good care of themselves. He seems to think that he is the father of a set of helpless children who can't survive without daddy."

He only thinks this because it is 100% true. His tribe pretty much said as much last week when they couldn't coordinate anything back at camp without him.

While Shane gives it his all in challenges, he is pretty much a stupid player. Voting for Aras, even if it is, in his words, "a throwaway vote", has to rank within the top 10 of dumbest survivor moves.

Aras is definitely going to know he was the one who voted for him and with all of the girls wanting him out, he may have blown his chance of a tie if he got Bruce on his side.

Why hasn't anyone clued in that if you keep sending the same person back to Exile island that you are only increasing their odds of finding the idol. You are also assuming they will use it (if they find it) before the merge. Oh stupid fools. Let's send the strongest/smartest/leader person from the other team to a place where he can go find an idol he can use later to stay in the game even longer.... that's real smart.

I have a feeling the merge is going to be interesting but for now this is a rather boring Survivor. I find myself just not caring.

He didn't volunteer, it's the winning tribe which gets to choose which member of the losing tribe is sent to the island.

I was very surprised to see Bobby go tonight. This was not because he did not deserve it but more because he has not had any airtime up until this point so I figured he must be in for the long haul. I was hoping for a last minute tribal council surprise with Shane's "throw-away" vote somehow coming into play. Oh well...

Casaya is such a mess of a tribe. I think that Danielle and Cirie are the only ones in that tribe that have any game at all. Danielle seems like she wants to run the show instead of the boys and Cirie is just slowly moving to make sure the target is not on her back. I think the girls of that tribe would have a good chance to go far except that it looks like the tribes will get mixed up next week. Last comment on Casaya... what was up with their choices for who was participating in the challenges? Why sit out Danielle and Courtney for Reward and not Immunity? That was odd and I think it cost them immunity.

As for La Mina, not much going on tonight other than a whole lot of sickness. I guess Terry wanted them to have some protein but they should have picked the RICE!

Actually ... Jeff is probably in an air conditioned cabin NOT watching the antics of these tools.
