How I Met Your Mother: Cupcake

how i met your
mother; ted; robin; barney; suit upI have a feeling I'm not going to like Robin for much longer. Just call it a hunch, but I'd be willing to bet she's the reason that "long distance relationships don't work". And if she hurts me Ted...

This episode also moved the story along towards Marshall and Lily's actual wedding, which is something I'm definitely looking forward to. Watching Lily try on the "mullet of wedding dresses" was hilarious. Someone last week also mentioned that the past couple of episodes have been kind of "Ted-lite", and I think that's been a pretty important part of why the show works for me-- it's not just Ted's show. On with the show!

I think when the powers-that-be first envisioned How I Met Your Mother, they saw it being Ted's show -- his quest, his love interests, his supporting cast -- and in the first couple of episodes, you can see that to some extent. But now, the other four have taken on lives, stories and quirks of their own. There's a very close and caring "family" among these friends, and I've said it before, but that's something I think makes the show so endearing. The title alone references family, and Ted is telling this story to his kids. Even Barney, in his own screwed up ways, had Marshall's best intentions at heart by wanting him to get the most well-paying job he could. I just love the whole group's dynamics and feelings for each other.

Now, on to the Robin thing. I like her. I like that she's, in her own words, kind of a new-age feminist and is always putting her career before anything else. I don't like that she's being this destructive. In Friends we had a whole year to fall in love with Rachel and feel for her longing for Ross. Robin however is coming across as the little girl who only wants the toys that the other kids are playing with, and now I have this bad-feeling that since "she can't have it, no one can", and she'll try to break Ted the toys. Really at this point, I think we as the audience aren't really supposed to like her, but they're going to need to make her a little more sympathetic again, and quick! Let me know what you think.

By the way, I know a lot of people have asked if there's any good sites for How I Met Your Mother out there. I've scoured the ends of the earth for you fair readers, and may I present to you www.howimetyourmother.org. Now, it is pretty young, and there's not too much to the site yet, but it's also the first one that I've found that's completely devoted to the show. Hop right in there and help it grow. I'll see you there because not only am I a member, but I'm also a... well... member. That didn't work quite how I thought it would

Barneyisms of the Week:
"Do you want a quality suit and a free rabbit or what?"
Marshall: "You set this up! You set this whole thing up!"
Barney: "I... most... certainly... did."

Favorite part of the episode... when Lily sat on the cake. The best part of it was that it was a very silly moment but not at all obvious. I didn't see it coming!

I have two points I hope youll find interesting. First of all, Im surprised you didnt mention the strong connection, once again, between Barney and Robin. This weeks show was divided into two mirroring-segments. Lily and Marshall match up as they were both trying on new, very expensive clothes, which they both get stuck with the tab for.

Ted and Victoria were matched up pondering and talking about their future.

That left Robin and Barney to match up. They both spent their segments scamming people in devious ways to get what they want. Robin had a little bit of a heart at the end.but Barney always does, too.

I also wanted to point out that the show has still left open the possibility that Victoria is the mother. All Ted said was that the long distance relationship did not work out. Maybe she comes back. Maybe he goes there. Maybe they meet up again after two years. I thought Victorias exit would close some doors, but it seems to me the door is still open, and it seems to me that the show may be trying to trick us into counting her out.

Since we all know that Robin is not Teds wife, I can pretty much guess that Robin is going to a one time BED thing. I mean just think of the verse "I don't want to ruin our friendship"! Thats going to be the first thing they both gonna think about after they've had funny (Ted blows everything)sex!

In the back of my head, I really think this show may try to screw with our heads and eventually put Lili and Ted together. They should take a cue from Friends and realize that a married couple can still be interesting.

However, I still think Ted needs another single friend. A female Barney perhaps?!?

I don't know what it is about this show but I am definately addicted. I don't know if I am a fan of this episode or not. On one hand we got to see Lilly try on the mullet dress which was funny as hell, but on the other we just got to start to know Victoria and bam she is gone. I wanted her around for a little longer.

The stories are definately moving forward which is good. I wonder what is going to happen after Lilly and Marshal get married. We did have the Duel Episode and we know they are both not making that much money and they are to get a place of their own... Should be interesting. I wonder if the wedding episode will happen this season or next, because I doubt they could put it off any longer than that.

"She can't have it, no one can" is something that everyone experiences.
