Battlestar Galactica: Lay Down Your Burdens (Part Two)

smallIt all comes down to this. So, were the spoilers floating around accurate? Did that "big risk" being talked about really happen? Who wins the election? Does the fleet settle on the newly found planet? Are more Cylon models revealed?

Read on to find out.

First big thing we find out -- yes, the preacher is a Cylon. Somehow he's able to easily slip onto the return ship from Caprica, and the rescue team thinks nothing of it. Honestly, the fact that the crew so easily assumed the Cylons left Caprica *and* allowed a Cylon to board their ship was disappointing.

Sharon reveals her darker side, admitting she cares nothing for Helo or any other humans, which is why she allowed the new Cylon to board.

Oh, and the new Cylon has the best lines of the series so far. "I'm not a fraking Cylon! (sees his Cylon twin) ...Oh, OK then." Brilliant!

So, what message does the new Cylon give? Basically, "we destroyed humanity and, well, we shouldn't have done that. Our bad." And now the Cylons want to just call bygones, let Humans and Cylons go separate ways. Well, Adama don't play that.

Also, it seems perhaps the new season will intro with "and they have a NEW plan."

The second big news of the show: President Roslin rigs the election, and a few of our Galactica friends were in on it! The election win is short lived, so the fleet now answers to a presidency headed by Baltar. While of course Baltar's a bad choice for president, so is Roslin, in my humble opinion. This election decision reminded me of one that happened not all that long ago. Yes, that's right: the douche and the turd sandwich.

And Baltar's first action as the new president? Settle New Caprica, the newly discovered planet from last week's episode. Well actually, that's the second thing he does, right after he boinks Cylon Gina. And then we have the final thirty minutes we've been reading about, that half hour we just would have to see to believe.

First up, the destruction of Cloud Nine by Gina. I guess Baltar wasn't so hot in the sack. Anyway, it looks as if the explosion takes out a few other smaller ships in the process, leaving the fleet population numbers in total question. That effect of the camera getting hit with debris was an excellent touch.

Remember all of those weird flashbacks and flash-forwards that have bugged me a few times this season? Well, the writers really did a doozy this time, flashing the *entire series* ahead a full year! The Battlestars are virtually unmanned in orbit around New Caprica, with most of the population with their feet on the ground. And Adama's sporting a neat 'stache, Tyrol's a daddy with Cally, Roslin's back to teaching, and Tigh has...a hat.

Can I just say that the fleet needs another doctor a lot more than the folks on Lost do. What's with that old crone Cottle seemingly taking care of everyone, even someone with a cold?

Oh, and Gina's nuke trick? That was a big shout out to the other Cylons in the Galaxy, letting them know right where they can find the Humans settling down. The Adama boys take quick action and FTL the heck out of there before the Cylons can do anything about it.

Oh, and that "new" plan the preacher was talking about?  Psych!

See you in October!

Quote of the episode: "Yes, I'm a Cylon. And I have a message. So... Take me to your leader."

Current planet population: 39,192

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!.....to lovely, talented GRACE PARK. Her world class beauty and magnificent acting ability is a breath of fresh air to the tv/movie industry. This young lady has a great future ahead of her. Her legions of fans eagerly await her return in October. She is the #1 reason I watch Battlestar Galactica and I will watch anything she is in. Til October, we will sorely miss her. Tim-1

I really enjoy the new Galactica. The plot twists in the season ender are really setting us up for an interesting next season. The only disappointment will be if Adama wakes up in the shower next season opener and this was all a dream.

If you just can't cope with the fact that the story has jumped a year ahead and everything has changed, you're a coward. Get out of your bubble. Ron Moore and his writers have huge balls to do something like that.

By the same token, if they pull a Patrick Duffy (dream sequence) I will lose all respect.

Tim:

Thanks.

But she should just thrown her out of the airlock, ya dig?

:)

Waiting for this show to come back to have this debate will make for a long summer. Can't we find another character in TV land to argue about?

Joel: I believe I must agree with Dorv here. I do not wish to slice threads but this is a disscssion forum so we can have fun with this. The only reason she didn't go through with it is because technically, she was not really the president since she got caught. As Dorv said, she feels no remorse about throwing people out airlocks etc. There are some deleted scenes in one of the season 2.0 episodes and one of those scenes clearly shows Adamas contempt for Baltar after Baltar extends a welcme back hand to Adama upon his return to duty. The point is, this only re-enforces the dislike Adama has for Baltar. If this were real life, I would wonder why Adama would make Roslin undo the fixed election. You are right, Joel, in bringing the ethical reasons in play, but I would think that Roslin and Adama would not be comfortable in throwing out the baby with the bathwater. As I mentioned before, these are excrutiating times and you cannot fight an ethical battle with an unethical opponet. If Adama would have looked the other way, Roslin would definately kept her presidency. I then am, frankly surprised in Adama's actions more than Roslins. I know you like Roslin, a lot of folks do, but when she tried to throw Superbabe Sharon out the airlock and stold her baby, Roslin is public enemy #1 to me.

Yeah, Joel, I really think she would have. You're right in that she did react negatively. I compare that to the scenes in which she throws Cylons out the airlock with no remorse, so there is a definite difference.

But, despite that, I do think that she would have done it. The ends justify the means.

I was just as deflated as everyone else here :(

I just hope that in Oct. we'll have a great show not some bloated sunken flop! Not to mention, 7 months seems like such a long time. I've been a fan since the very first trailers were advertised and I was hooked. Now it comes to this. Keep your fingers crossed fans... it's gonna be rough.

Yeah, you're probably right about getting caught ultimately stopping her. But if you remember, when she first heard the "results", as well as when she talked to Adama on the phone, she looked like somebody ran over her cat. I don't think that she could have gone thru with it even minus anal boy's recognition of the correctly spelled ballots. Do you?

Joel: You had me until, "She will do whatever it takes to protect and provide for her people, including submit to their will." She cheated. She got caught. She backed down. Had she not been caught, do you think she would have submitted to their will?

I'm not saying that she can't reasonably justify what she did. In the same circumstances, I'd imagine that I'd behave similarly.

But she only backed down because she got caught.
