Jessica Simpson turns down Republicans

by Adam Finley, posted Mar 16th 2006 1:38PM

jessica simpsonJessica Simpson turned down a seat at a Republican fund-raiser and a face-to-face meeting with President Bush recently to talk about the charity she supports, Operation Smile. The charity provides free plastic surgery to disadvantaged kids overseas with facial deformities. I just hope it isn't like Plastic Surgeons Without Borders.

Anyway, Simpson apparently didn't want to politicize her charity or make her own political views known. I guess I can respect that, although I don't see any clear political affiliation regarding this charity, so her reasoning seems a little odd. Simpson did agree to the meeting initially, then changed her mind at the last minute.

Update: According to IMDb, Simpson is denying everything the press has been reporting, and has stated that the president merely didn't have enough time to meet with her.

It's too bad she turned this down. I've actually been involved with Operation Smile, and went to a youth conference for it 3 years ago. It's a great organization, which can only use more exposure, which is why it is such a shame she turned it down. Having Bush make an appearance would only go to help the charity grow, and grant more surgeries to disadvantaged children in 3rd world countries receive free cleft palate and cleft lip surgeries, hence the "smile" in Operation Smile

Backing Logan on this one

"What is it about celebrity that makes people believe their smarter than everyone else?"

I'm not sure. Perhaps THEY'RE aware of how basic English grammar and spelling operate. Tip: It's never a good idea to insult a group's intelligence while betraying your own stupidity.

Celebrities... Is there anything they don't know?

(see Clooney, Maher, Streisand to start)

What is it about celebrity that makes people believe their smarter than everyone else?

Her charity doesn't have clear political affiliation, but it is a 501(c)3 charity which by law cannot endorse political candidates or parties. From what I heard, she is concerned that representing her charity at a political fundraiser would violate her 501(c)3 status.

If it turns out that she is correct, does that mean Jessica Simpson is smarter than the Republicans coordinating the fundraiser?
