MSN, not iTunes, will stream first two episodes of Heist

by Anna Johns, posted Mar 16th 2006 9:53AM
While NBC offered up free iTunes downloads of the premiere episode of Conviction earlier this month, it's turning to Microsoft for its next big drama. MSN will stream the first two episodes of Heist for one week after each episode airs, first on March 22 and then on March 29. A 16-minute preview of Heist is already available on MSN. The deal with Microsoft gives a lot of promotion to Heist, including top billing on its TV and entertainment pages. That's more promotion than NBC gets with Apple. But, does anybody watch streaming video anymore when we can download and watch it at our convenience?

my biggest gripe with stupid moves like this is the fact that msn video is a closed platform, as a mac user, I am SOL. What companies need to realize is that microsoft doesn't care. They want to push their propoetary technology that they only support on their platform down everyone's throats. Apple at least takes the time to make the experience the same, not only on the mac platform, but windows as well. So, NBC, how am I and the millions of other mac users supposed to enjoy your program when we see error codes such as

"To use this product, you need to install free software
This product requires Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, Microsoft Media Player 10, and Macromedia Flash 7. To download these free software applications, click the links below and follow the on-screen instructions."

(You need free software), that is hilarious, you just have to make sure you buy a windows PC with windows XP... Oh, god microsoft you crack me up.

It probably suXorz and that is why they're not putting it on iTunes right away, LOL.
