Nate Corddry: In the Limelight
After growing accustomed to razor-sharp wit and perfect
delivery by the likes of Stephen Colbert, I found that some of the newest Daily Show correspondents weren't
quite up to par. I was extremely disappointed when newbies Dan Bakkedahl and Jason Jones both only garnered weak laughs
when they were not facing icy silences (Bakkedahl has yet to improve, Jones is doing slightly better). But then, what
came my way? A correspondent worthy of joining the ranks of the TDS elite! Of course, I am speaking of my
favorite TDS new guy, Mr. Nathan Corddry.I was initially surprised that they would have Nate on at the same time as his brother, Rob Corddry, and I could not
help but wonder if Nate would only be considered another Rob, but with significantly more hair. After only a few
segments and mere months into his new role, Nate managed to clearly define himself as a completely separate guy (while
simultaneously embracing the abusive sibling rivalry that he and Rob could play with on-camera).
In this interview, Nate shared some information about his
new NBC sitcom deal and how he's leaving TDS. Well, his departure all depends
on the success of the pilot, but it sounds like he's already planning on it. Rob also has a sitcom deal (for FOX) so
there's a chance that both Corddry brothers will leave pretty soon. Seriously, I'm crushed... With Samantha Bee away
indefinitely with her new baby and Stephen Colbert happy with his new show, it looks like Ed Helms might end up as the
only oldie correspondent in the bunch.
As some other Corddry fans reminded me, Nate leaving the show isn't
necessarily a bad thing... If his sitcom takes off, it means that we'll see him at least once a week as opposed to once
every month. I suppose that's true, but I'm still not sure if I'm willing to let go of my favorite TDS baby.
