Carville and Matalin to star in reality series

by Joel Keller, posted Mar 20th 2006 4:03PM
Mary Matalin and James CarvilleInteresting tidbit from, of all places, Time magazine: James Carville and Mary Matalin, political strategists on opposite sides of the fence who just happen to be husband and wife, will be participating in a Lifetime reality series called Election. In the show Carville, who managed Bill Clinton's 1992 presidential campaign, and Matalin, who is a well-regarded Republican strategist, will each advise a high school student that's running for school president.

I've always wanted to see Carville and Matalin in a reality show, considering they have a successful marriage despite their opposing political views, and also because both of them have made-for-TV personalities (especially Carville, whose character was already immortalized by Billy Bob Thornton on the sitcom Hearts Afire in the movie Primary Colors). I just wish they'd put cameras on their everyday life, instead of doing this this contrived idea. Imagine: a fight about government wiretapping turns into a night of wild passion. It'd be a hundred times better than The West Wing, I tell you that.

"Imagine: a fight about government wiretapping turns into a night of wild passion."

Oh, please, God, NO. If there are two people I want to see on television in a wild night of passion, it is NOT Carville & Matalin.

Now I need to find something to clear that visual from my mind....fuzzy bunnies, fuzzy bunnies, fuzzy bunnies......

All typos, misspellings and misstatements have been fixed. Some posts are just more mistake-filled than others, I guess.

Joel,

"Will each ADVICE?"

You mean ADVISE. :)

Thank you, thank you, no applause needed.

I'm the UNOFFICIAL spell checker now for TVSquad.

Although, I do deserve a star for pointing out your typo. :)

Let me second dirtygirl's opinion of these two. Is it me, or are they just the creepiest couple...EVER! Whenever I see them together, and I have to say it's rare, Carville is always acting like a dog with his tail between his legs who's also been beat around the head too much by his hateful master. This has to be the most stupid idea I've ever heard of!

I believe Thornton played a Carville like character in the movie Primary Colors. In Hearts Afire he played the rather subdued wishy washy husband of Wendy Jo Sperbers character. A big contrast to Carvilles vocal energetic personality.

I can't believe these guys get another show after the atrocity that was K Street (with lobbying scandals in the news, I wonder if it would have gotten a second look if it aired today. probably not). It's bad enough Tim Russert seems to be their best buddy and puts them on his Sunday morning roundtable way too often.

I like the concept, but I'm just so sick of these two I wish they'd go away. I do recommend The War Room, a documentary of the 1992 Clinton campaign. Both have small but amusing roles in it.
