CSI: Miami - Driven

CSI Miami; David Caruso; Emily ProctorAm I the only one that had forgotten about Marisol Delko? It's too bad that when a character has been pushed aside for so long, that the easiest way to bring them back is just make them witness to some crime. Such was the case here.

See, here's the thing I don't get. Marisol is sick with some form of cancer right? And it was my understanding that earlier in the season Delko was helping her out (getting marijuana among other things) because she was pressed for funds. So how is it that she's now able to spend a day at a spa where many of the patrons drive Aston Martins and other expensive vehicles? Too many questions.

This was the first episode in a while where all I did was ask questions mainly because I didn't enjoy the plot too much. Some of my queries?

  • Why was Emily Proctor so underused in this episode? Although, this seems like it's becoming a trend.
  • Were they going to bring up the date that Marisol and Horatio went on? Although he did have her stay at his apartment while the investigation crawled on.

Another interesting thing that gave me a blast from the past was when Wolfe froze while they busted into the auto chop-shop. He had a guy point a shotgun right at him and Wolfe stood there; couldn't fire back. It reminded me of the exact situation when Speedle froze, his gun jammed I think, and he was killed. For a minute there, I really thought Wolfe was going to take one in the gut.

This did bring back IAD Detective Stetler, since he had to question Wolfe and H about the shooting. I was surprised that he never questioned Wolfe about his eyesight in regards to the nailgun injury. Although, the re-emergence of Stetler got me thinking. He could be the mole. He already hates Horatio for sending away Yelina, so he certainly has motive to bring down H and his team. I had never considered this guy since he's never around. Thoughts?

If I remember correctly, Marisol wasn't selling because she was hard up for cash. She was getting the pot for her cancer support group people; people who didn't want to risk getting it themselves or who otherwise couldn't get it themselves. She and her support group people need it to get through the nausea of chemo and Eric was helping her by getting supplies (rolling paper, etc), but he never got the pot for her himself. After all, he's a cop, so he would never put himself in the "buyer" role himself.

This is my favorite show. But, I couldn't get into this episode because I can't see Caruso with this Marisol girl. It started out fine and then - and this kills me to say - it got boring. Except the husband of the woman who was killed was gorgeous. Credits fly by - who knows who he is. Wolfe gets on my nerves and if he is going to have a thing with Calleigh - ick! Underused - Eva La Rue - that's a hot situation. Who is right for Caruso - a grown up.

I had the same question about Delko's sister being at the Spa. It made no sense to me. And that bit about having a baby with Horatio, that seemed out of left field (even if she is dying from cancer).

I still say that lab tech (the younger guy that was with Wolfe tracking the Viper GPS)is the mole. He has been in the episodes more lately and always seems to be asking random questions, like he's trying to get information.

I wasn't overly impressed with the episode but I thought the bit with Calleigh tricking the guy at the shop was amusing. And what is the deal with her and Wolfe? They seem to be a bit more flirtatious with each other over the last 3-4 episodes.

I totally agree that Emily Proctor is vastly underused on CSI: Miami this season. She's been relegated to being the voice of wisdom every time Wolfe gets pouty about one thing or another. Personally, I'm sick of the Wolfe character would love nothing better if he went the way of Speedle. I'm also tired of Marisol and her inexplicable attraction to Horatio. I mean come on, I know he's a cop and all, but someone like Marisol being attracted to him -- I don't buy it.

Not only are the actors starting to impersonate Caruso, the writers are starting to write the way he acts. If it weren't for the unintentional comedy factor I wouldn't watch at all. If I could interview any of the actors on the show I'd ask, "Is it hard to do a scene with Horatio? Do you snicker when he reads his lines? Who does the best impersonation?"
