Lost: The Whole Truth

Jin; lost; tvsquadWe're back! The first new episode of Lost since sweeps, which was the first new episode since... sweeps. Luckily we won't have to wait until May to get the next episode. Tonight's episode of Lost dealt with Sun and Jin and their struggle to expand their family. Did they succeed? Is their baby going to be picked up by the Others? Was it what they both wanted? Were they both *ahem* even involved? Well... that's a whole other story, and one for a flashback. With that in mind, on with the show!

The focus of this episode was on Sun and Jin, this is the third time we've gotten a back story devoted totally to them, and I honestly had a hard time keeping up with this one. Their (and really any) story in subtitles is just naturally alienating, but this episode in particular just didn't seem to grab ahold of me. I was much more interested in all of the sub-plots going on than I was in that main story, and while they normally balance the side stories and main thread pretty well, this one was pretty lopsided. We learned of Sun and Jin's quest to have a child together, and of Sun's love and relationship with another man. Fast forward to "now" on the island and with a little help from Dr. Jack and pharmacist Sawyer we find that Sun is pregnant. Considering that she hasn't "been with" anyone, including Jin for quite some time, they both chalk it up to being a miracle. I, myself, chalk it up to Sun being a liar.

As I said earlier, the stuff on the side was much more for me. I liked the trust that Locke is just all of a sudden throwing at Ana Lucia. I liked Charlie's continuing urge to "fit in", no matter what the costs (his safety among the top of that list). I find the budding attraction between Ana Lucia and Sayid fascinating. They say that hate and love are the two closest related emotions and nothing says "I hate you" like killing the woman you love. Above everything else, I abso-freakin-lutely loved the last couple of minutes of the show. The mind games that Henry Gale continues to play on Jack and Locke are entertaining to the Nth degree to watch unfold. It seems like no one is going to win that battle of the minds.

The producers of Lost said that they were going to explore the dynamics and society of the group more this year as opposed to the mystery of the island from last year. That's caused a pretty big uproar among the fans, but in my eyes, this has been a brilliant season so far. Above all else, this is a drama, and that's what we're watching unfold in this arc, and I'm enjoying it immensely. I think once this is done, and everyone can look back and watch this without any weird or extended breaks, it will be appreciated more. Let me know what you think.

The pregnancy test that Sun used had the brand name Widmore Labs. Widmore was also the name written on the side of the construction company building that was referenced as an Easter Egg in the Charlie-centric episode Fire + Water. I'd venture to say there's some sort of connection.

I like Jin & Sun, as a couple they are very interesting. I also know that Henry Gale is an other, the way he is manipulating Locke and Jack proves that.
Now, the backstory about Sun and Jin was good too, but I think the title of this episode was misleading " The Whole Truth", yeah right. Now let them show us a backstory of Henry Gale as an other and then we would know the whole truth. But, then that would be the end of the series wouldn't it.

I have one other point to bring up, stop with all the repeats and three week gaps just play them like they do on Fox show 24. I'd gladly wait until January for a no repeat show.

Tucker: I've heard that theory somewhere else, but I don't think so. Eko would never help The Others, and even if he doesn't think Henry Gale is an Other, I believe he would appeal to Jack and Locke's reason so they would free him instead of secretly doing so himself (like he appealed to Jack's reason when he wanted to go out with guns to meet Ana Lucia).

As a matter of fact, I see Eko as very disinterested in the everyday comings and goings of the camp. I bet he doesn't care one bit about who has the guns (Sawyer or Jack/Locke), he doesn't care about who's in charge, about who's in the hatch, about the computer, etc. He is, however, very protective of his people, so if something happens to Ana Lucia on their expedition, I bet he'll get involved then.

How long was Sun left alone when she was hit on the head last season? Is it at all feasible that one of "the others" could have impregnated her then??

Joey - Oh, you mean "the big black guy who cut off his beard in front of me"? One of the greatest lines of the series, honestly.

Anyway, someone mentioned earlier that they believe someone is helping Henry escape. Considering what went down between he and Eko, anyone thinking maybe it's Eko helping him out? That would be a REAL good reason for his character to have been scarce the last couple episodes...

I agree, I noticed that Henry looked scared when Eko came in. If he is an Other, could it be that he knows about Eko killing two of them? Eko was, after all, one of the original targets to be dragged off, wasn't he? The Others should definitely all know about Eko, and should be very wary of him after those deaths. It makes sense why Henry would be afraid of him.

Am I the only one dying for Mr. Eko to get back into the story?

I'm telling you, as creepy as Henry Gale is, and as much as he has been able to dodge everyone from Sayid to Locke, he has never look as scared as when he saw Mr. Eko standing at the door, or when Mr. Eko said "Quiet" so he could go on with his story.

What I'm surprised about the chatter here is that no one has guessed if Sun thought she was pregnant before the crash. I mean, Kate did ask, "Who would bring a pregnancy test on a plane?" We know that it wouldn't be Claire. After all, Sun was about to leave her husband that day. Then again, it could belong to one of the non-survivors.

BTW,isn't it pretty sick that Sawyer is reading a book about a pre-teen girl not fitting in? Sort of reminds me of Sun and Jin.

I think that whether or not Henry Gale is one of the Others, he is just one bad guy and there is no way around it. He is just way too creepy of a character to be otherwise.

That last scene of him speaking before he really got into his cereal was soooo creepy. I really got the shivers. He is mucho creepy to the max.
