The Daily Show: March 21, 2006
Ahh, the Iraqi war has headed into its fourth year... its
senior year. And Bush's ratings have hit a senior slump. Currently, it seems as though Bush is the only one who
realizes what a great job he has been doing. I absolutely loved that series of manipulated clips of Bush from various
press conferences ("One of my favorite tactics is to say the same thing over and over and over again")."Trendspotting" (Treeeeends): Demetri Martin filed a report about the wonders of life coaching. Having a
life coach is like having a really good friend!... who charges. This report was funny, but not as funny as I thought it
was going to be (after seeing the clip during last night's episode: "Start this sentence..."). Martin taught
us how to decide whether or not we need a life coach. Simply use the Life Of Satisfaction Expectation Ratio (or LOSER).
Take the age you moved out, multiply it by the age you lost your virginity, divide all that by the number of cats you
have, add one. You need a life coach if you actually copied all that down (hey, I only copied it down for this review,
okay?). Strangest part of the segment? Martin's weird little tie.
The night's guest was General Georges Sada, one of Saddam Hussein's most trusted advisors and author of Saddam's Secrets: How an Iraqi General Defied And Survived Saddam Hussein. Aww, Jon wasn't kidding when he said that General Sada was cute (look at him! He's adorable!). I wanted to reach through the screen and hug him. It was definitely a big surprise to see a guy like him... I was expecting some hardened, sullen-looking man, with a face viciously wrinkled with sick experience and horrid images of wars past. But no. He was all smiles throughout the interview and was very amiable. General Sada spoke of his experiences working under Saddam, explaining that he always told Saddam his honest opinion, not just what Saddam wanted to hear. He also said that there were definitely weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, even after they were supposedly removed (he saw this for himself). Jon was absolutely right when he said that General Sada put a human face on this whole situation. I really enjoyed this interview.
Jon/Stephen: Stephen Colbert said he liked Demetri Martin's report about life-coaching and offered up his own life-coaching services for a mere $245 a month. Moment of Zen: No one interrupts President Bush without meeting a snippy Commander-In-Chief.
