Dan Curtis dead at 78

Dan CurtisIf you're of a certain age, then the name Dan Curtis means something to you. He was one of the producers/directors behind such 70s horror classics as The Night Stalker, The Night Strangler, Dracula and Dark Shadows. Curtis was diagnosed with a brain tumor late last year and died at his home in Brentwood, CA.

Curtis was also producer of many other TV movies and miniseries, including The Winds of War, War and Rememberence, and Saving Milly. And he scared the living shit out of me as a kid with that Karen Black movie Trilogy of Terror. I didn't sleep at all the night I watched that.

Sadly, his wife Norma, who he was married to for over 50 years, died herself two weeks ago.

Ah, yes, Dan Curtis. This man was responsible for many of my childhood nightmares. Who could forget Night Stalker / Strangler, The Norliss Tapes, Dead of Night, Trilogy of Terror etc.. Modern horror film producers and directors could learn a lot from this great man.

Dan Curtis was indeed a talented producer and director.
I am a big fan of Dark Shadows, and other of Dan's gothic master pieces. He will be surely missed!

I loved everything that he did as a producer, especially Dark Shadows when I was a kid in grad school. I raced home everyday to watch the show. I loved it! Trilogy of Terror was 1 of my all time favs. Thanks Dan for all that you did!

The Winds of War & War and Rememberence were the greatest mini-series (I think of them as one) ever. While sick over christmas, I rewatched them on DVD over a three week period - amazing stuff.
