Who put the kibosh on the Friends reunion?

by Joel Keller, posted Mar 28th 2006 3:07PM
The guys from FriendsWell, folks, it looks like those rumors we were hearing about a possible Friends reunion had some merit. According to this article, Lisa Kudrow acknowledged that a reunion was in the works, but one of the guys turned down the offer. She didn't specify which, but she made a point of saying that it was one of the guys, not Jennifer Aniston, as the prevailing scuttlebutt had stated. Hmm... wonder who turned the offer down? I bet it was Schwimmer; he always seemed to be the one who wanted to do anything other than act.

Why a Friends Reunion is necessary? All the great shows like
Seinfeld, MASH, Cheers and even Frasier have done their job for
the most part and ended properly in their fans'
book. Friends has not.

Other shows have ended badly, but we
don't care as much for those not so great shows and
Friends has done too many bad shows which in some opinion
cancelled out the great things they did early. 25
percent think the last 5 seasons(6-10) ruined the series.
75 percent think the last 2 seasons(9-10) ruined the series.
100 percent think that Joey has tarnished the Friends.
Thus Friends has jumped the shark for years not just
one show. So there is a consensus that Friends has
unfinished business to do. Of course we don't want
them to do it if they are going to give us the same
fluffy crap they did for whatever amount of years sucked
for certain fans. However if they could just get back
the magic of the first seasons of Friends and go for
some edges and emotion instead of dull, safe, emotionless
dribble they did in the later years. Funny for funny
sake esp. without tragic streak is not comedy. Why do
you think there is sad mask and happy mask when it
comes to comedy. There is fine linethe balance there
to make great comedy. By the end, the actors in those
characters were the only things worth watching the show.
Writing, stories and jokes had diminished to a parody
of themselves. Which embarrassed the characters for
which the actors should come back to make good to their
alter-egoes that gave them so much.

Not for the money, fame or whatever. DO it because
it is the right thing to do, but do it right, so
I don't want to see Ross and Rachel wedding episode!
That would be dull, safe, emotionless dribble cliche. What
happened to the show that introduced lesbians and other sexy taboo
subjects to the airwaves. Stop being a stoodge for the
establishment. AS the Beatleswould sing GET BACK GET BACK GET
BACK TO WHERE YOU ONCE BELONGED. BE FRIENDS again not wimps.
Do something with real weight. Stop repeating yourself
esp. no more Thanksgiving shows.

Now that we have established that a Reunion was about
to happen, but one of guys didn't want it.

We can safely assume there is no practical reason not to
do it for any of the six friends. And maybe semi-assume
that Perry is the hold out because he is having the
most successful career at least potentially. Since there
isn't any practical reason for Perry to refuse there must be
personal one with the other Friends or more likely about
the script ideas for his character Chandler. A given is
all the six Friends can not erase their characters from
our minds despite playing other roles. There is no
artistic or schedule conflict for doing multiple things
as Perry's new indie film and Studio 60 pilot can attest.

NOw we get to what we all want to know or hope. How are
they going to reverse this. We have to reverse it now
because opportunities to REunite for real episodes is
rare. It gets me that people think a REunion can happen
any time, but how many have happened in TV history
that had the cast act while they were young enough
instead of being too old or do commentary shows instead.

The key is Matt Le blanc. He has fallen the most
and is the closest to MAthew Perry being They are best
buds like Joey and Chandler. Le Blanc's JOey has failed
artistically, financially and on top of that he has fallen
personally with his infidelity with co-star Anders that
led to his divorce and they have sickly child. Le Blanc
has gone from A-list to F-list in no time flat. Le Blanc
has to call in a favor when he helped Perry during his
drug problems(perry got real thing time)
and get Perry to do it based on you are
my best friend and you owe me.

Lisa Kudrow would also be as bad off as Le blanc with her
show on HBO flopping as bad as Joey(at least she didn't
play Phoebe) and she's an older not as pretty actress which
is death to any actress, but she isn't close to Perry. However
she like her character Phoebe, she spoke out confirming
the rumors for us and pointing to the guys in the hope
to get her career back on track. Other friends are not
in as dire straits as Le Blanc and Kudrow, so they
are mum about it.

I think it was schiwmmer too.he doesn't like to act that much. I've just read a comment that said it would make sense if joey wasn't there but that's not true if it's a reunion it's obvious the characters in the program would call each other i think they could make a episode were ross and rachel get married but it all depends on David

Maybe Kristin Davis of CHarlotte/Sex and the City Fame and Mathew
Perry's girlfriend can say to Perry don't be the Kim
Catrall(Samantha on SEX and the city who refused to do a
movie version of the HBO show)of Friends.

Kudrow speaks for all involved that probably the reason
Perry gives for refusing isn't a reasonable one. She was gutted
or betrayed. No one can understand it from any perspective
other than one's personal conceited concerns.

April Fools!
Now to continue my joke. We will discuss the culprit
who put the kabosh on a Friends REunion because
it has been given away by their obvious clues.

1. Kudrow comes out and says it isn't the women,
but one of the guys who did it.

2. Kathleen Turner happens to leak that
she has been approached to guest star in
these episodes. Turner plays Chandler Binge's Dad.

3. Kudrow says she was gutted or surprised by the process meaning
whoever did this was most unlikely of people to
do it. Who is the most likely candidate to be that
unlikely candidate. Mathew Perry ALA Chandler Binge.
Chandler is meekest and we know that these characters
are a lot like the actors which is why they play them
so well.

These are intentional leaks by those who want this
guaranteed profit maker of hundreds of millions of
dollars to go through. They are going to pressure this one killjoy
to get the automatic millions this will generate.
Mathew Perry is doing Studio 60 which has no guarantee
of being the hit or moneymaker a Friends Reunion would
bring. Think of Joey sitcom. The rarity of having any
show reunite is scaring everyone involved who has stake
in these sure thing millions. So Mathew Perry, I hope
you can live with your decision. Hope it was a good
reason.

My theory is that there is no practical reason for any of
cast to refuse this offer. However there may be personal
one that one cast member couldn't get over. So it goes like
this: All six agreed to do it. Then they were presented the ideas
of the episodes for which everyone liked it or loved it
except this one person who nixed the deal. Since this person
was outnumbered by the people who liked it there was
no changing the ideas. The next question, why not change the idea
to get such big rare deal done? First, none of the principals
needs to do a show for money, fame or work. NBC has
no say because the principals are millionaires. Only
reason for any of them to do it is because it is worth it
like the ideas presented were so cool that
it made them feel like kids and excited like when they
first chose acting for a living. Like the classic Friends instead
of the embarrassing later Friends and Joey.
However, maybe the ideas were too brash and rubbed one cast member
the wrong way and that cast member backstabbed his friends and backed out
last minute. thus we have the Kudrow quote, "I'm gutted."
Boy it makes me want to know what idea turned off one of
the Friends so much to turn down such big offer.

Just to clarify... I never said that Schwimmer couldn't act; I said that he's never expressed as much interest in acting as he has for writing and directing. Given a choice between directing or acting, my guess is that Schwimmer would choose directing. Of course he's a pretty decent actor; it just isn't his first priority.

We'll I don't believe there not all going to be at the friends reunion. Because I heard when they decided to end Friends they all agreed to give NBC two friends reunion specials. NBC must had got that in writing. I believe the one that said it was Aniston.

Me and my husband are BIG fans of Friends. We have the whole DVD collection and we watch them all the time!!!! We would love to see a reunion show but I think it's a little too early and maybe that is why one of the guys turned it down. I would however love to see one in a couple of years. But no matter if they do a reunion show or not I think we should respect them for their choices.

I would bet everything i have that it was matt perry. that guy has been trying to get out of that show after he had 2 movies that made money. The rest of the cast was getting tired of him not showing up. When you watch old interviews, just watch how they react to him. I was at a taping and they made us wait another 2 hours cause matt did not show up and they had to write as much of him as they could out of the show and they had a stand in actor pretending to be him and they re-shot everything he was supposed to be in 5 days later. It was season 7 show 713 - The One Where Rosita Dies. If you go back you will how most of his shots have no one else in them or they are very short. The other actors were not happy that day. Courteney Cox was pissed the whole time. even when it was curtin call she was still yelling at someone there when everyone was taking bows. Between Matt not showing up for work to do movies and doing rehab. My money is it was him
