The worst joke I've ever heard

by Bob Sassone, posted Mar 29th 2006 11:47AM
Jerry SeinfeldLet me preface this by saying I think Jerry Seinfeld is a funny guy and that Seinfeld is one of the great sitcoms of all-time.

OK, having said that...

I was watching the Seinfeld episode where George breaks up with a woman but he wants to go over to her house and get the books that he left there. Jerry asks him what this obsession with books is that people have. You've read the book, so why do you need to keep it on your shelf like it's a work of art of something? This gets a big laugh of the audience. You've read the book, who cares what happens to it?

So I guess this means that if I contact Seinfeld he'll send me all of his CDs and DVDs? Hey, he's listened to/watched them once, I'm sure he doesn't need them anymore.

I should have said I'm one who can "relate" to the joke.

I'm with the group that gets the joke. Most people only read a book once. I don't see how you can liken a music Cd to a book. Unless it's a book of poems or short stories, it's not even close.

Of course, with that being said, I don't get why people buy movies if they are only going to watch them once. Why not rent it? Any movies I own I have watched more than once or they cost less than the rental fee (B movies rule!)

;)

Hunters sometimes put the head of the deer, bear, etc. on the wall as a trophy. I think it is a similar ideal that has people keeping the book.

Oh, and yeah...not exactly blog worthy in my opinion either.

That may have been the worst joke you've ever heard, but not for me. This is, however, the worst blog post that I have ever read...

I always thought it was a meta-joke about the banality and absurdity of Seinfeld the TV character (to be distinguised from Jerry Seinfeld the comedian/actor). He wouldn't see any reason to read a book the second time. Heck, he'd barely see a reason for reading a book the first time, anyways a book would just add clutter and take up space in his meticoulous apartment.
