Easy Mac commercial grosses me out
We don't usually talk about commercials here; AdJab does a fine job of doing that for us. But there is an ad out there for Kraft Easy
Mac that's so vile that I need to talk about it in a public forum, just to make myself feel better. In the ad, a lazy college student is in his recliner, eating something out of a milk carton. Cereal perhaps? Then, a buddy walks over and asks him what he's eating.
"Cottage cheese," says the slovenly student.
"That's a milk carton... cottage cheese doesn't come in a milk carton."
Cut to a close-up of the slob, spoon in one hand, and clumps of "cottage cheese" on his sweater. He contemplates the situation and
EWWWWWW! The guy's eating spoiled milk! Actually, it's beyond spoiled... it's curdled into a solid! Every time I see that ad, I get all oogy inside (And I'm a guy who's eaten pig stomach, so there isn't much in the food world that gets me oogy).
I know the Kraft folks are trying to market Easy Mac to college students instead of kids these days, but is this the best way to do it? I mean, I ate some pretty gross food in college, but not stuff that would guarantee an afternoon of agony in the bathroom. Do they really want people to associate their product with food poisoning? It just seems counter-intuitive to me. But I'm not an ad executive; maybe they know something I don't.
