Dallas in Jacksonville?

by Annie Wu, posted Apr 15th 2006 12:27PM
John TravoltaI believe a refresher course in common sense is in order: If it's poisonous, don't eat it. If it's hot, don't touch it. If it's called Dallas, film it in Dallas, Texas. Well, now no one can say I didn't try. Apparently, the minds behind the upcoming big-screen version of Dallas have decided to film in, of all places, Jacksonville, Florida. First of all, is a remake of Dallas really necessary? Second of all... Jacksonville?! Wow, all this makes about as much sense as having Jennifer Lopez in the movie... Or having the British director of Bend It Like Beckham head the project. Next up: All the dialogue will be done... in the form of Gregorian chants!

And by Washington Post, I mean New York Post

The Washington Post's gossip columnist pulled the news from a British newspaper which had misinterpreted stories in Dallas' and Jacksonville's local newspaper. Jacksonville is competing for the movie, but no one has made a decision on where it's going. Of course, now this "news" has proliferated so much that it's going to be tough to take back the story.

I think this movie is going to be a joke! First of all, J-Lo as Sue Ellen?? NOT!! Shirley McClain? NOT! How about Sam Elliot as Jock, Patty Duke as Miss Ellie, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Pam, Michael Douglas as JR and I am not too sure yet about Sue Ellen, Bobby, Ray or Cliff. Jessica Simpson might be okay as Lucy. I am a Dallas viewew from the very beginning and I don't have a problem with a Movie version as long as the right people are cast for the parts. As it stands now, it's going to blow... HARD!!

Here is yet another shining beacon as to why Hollywood ticket sales are in the dump. To answer your question: hell, no, we didn't need a big movie remake of an 80s soap opera! How sad for John Travolta's career. How sad for the other actors who think doing this will be good for their careers.

I hope this movie does not bomb like other remakes, i.e., The Stepford Wives and Bewitched. I would LOVE to cast this movie...Mel Gibson as JR, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Sue Ellen. Ann-Margret as Miss Ellie, Warren Beatty as Jock Ewing, Collin Ferrel as Bobby, Carmen Electra as Pam, and Jessica Simpson as Lucy.
Plus a really good, roller coaster ride of a script.

Did you know cattle ranching is nearly as big in Florida as Texas? Truth is stranger than fiction.
