South Park's been showing Muhammad all season!

south park; muhammad; funnySo I was perusing Wikipedia last night (that's what everyone does on a Friday night, right?), and came across this entry about the new opening on this season of South Park. Apparently, our good buddies Matt Stone and Trey Parker have been pulling the wool over our eyes and Comedy Central's this entire season! Ok, it's only been four three episodes (apparently, the new modified opening has only been used since the second episode of the season-- Smug Alert), but still, they've been doing it all along. If you look very carefully, you can see the Prophet Muhammad (highlighted by the red rectangle to the right of the sign) who's never been seen this clearly in the opening group shot before now. I love it! Who would have thought that foul-mouthed cartoons would be spearheading the battle for the right to free speech?

Dear Sonny,

Its a good thing that Europe never hated Muslims before now.

Sincerely,

You guys are taking this WAY too seriously. That's what is wrong with our whole world. Too many religious people taking things way too seriously. You go Matt and Trey.

Now let's see a Pat Robertson/Alzheimer's Disease episode, maybe a continuation of the Marklars.

Hey Sonny, did you even see all of the cartoons AND the context they were originally presented in? Not all of them were offensive, and they were presented together as a gallery of how different people see Muhammad.

It strikes me as funny that you accuse others of not understand what you yourself did not understand. The entire reason ALL of the cartoons were printed in the first place was precisely because of the fear of printing ANY image, inflammatory or not.

I agree with Bill. If you cant take a joke srrew 'em. I dont see whats the big deal? T.V. was made for entertaiment and not a study guide or something. Comedy Central is the best channel and south park is a great show. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

D,
YES, THE RELIGION IS THE REASON FOR THE BLOODSHED YOU IGNORANT FOOL. The reason that we are being attacked is because the muslim extremeists feel that we are impeding on their religion, which in a lot of cases, we are. Since the beginnning of religion, it has caused the most bloodshed. There has been more killing in the name of religion than any other cause and will always, unfortunately, be the case.

Sonny-
Do you perhaps think that the reason Muslims aren't offended when depictions of Mohammed are shown in Iran is the fact the Iranians are Muslims as well? It is when the "Infidels" (us, in case you don't know shit, which is highly likely) depict their Prophet. This depiction is one of the highest forms of sacriledge in the religion of Islam. Honestly, I think you wrote five paragraphs for this argument and every single word is useless babble. The only good piece of info I could gather from your argument is that you like South Park.

Well, I personally think that the issue was not one of free speech but stupidity. The boradcasting of images of the prophet is allright and had been done for many many years, yet the cartoons were idiotic, and the consequences were equally idiotic too, if one thinks that their prophet shouldnt be depicted wearing a bomb-headwear, they shouldn't reply with bombs, personally I think while some of the cartoons are o.k., that one was really stupid and off-topic as the religion itself is not the reason of the violence, heck, religiously(comparing the holy books) it is the most welcoming one(naturally as it's claimed the last one). Oh and I'm not a muslim, but part of a mostly muslim country, namely Turkey.

Let me correct myself above; I meant to say 'Danish' cartoons. The 'Dutch' had nothing to do with it!

"I love it! Who would have thought that foul-mouthed cartoons would be spearheading the battle for the right to free speech?"

I am NOT surprised that most of us do not understand the issue at heart of the Dutch cartoon controversy. The fact that the Dutch newspaper printed cartoons of Prophet Muhammad, was not the main reason behind all the outrage and violence.

While true that most Muslims consider the depiction of Prophet Muhammad as sacrilegious, there are many Muslims who do not. In fact, as I found out from an acquaintance, the pictures of Prophet Muhammad can be found all over the streets of Iran. These depictions have been tolerated by the majority of Muslims for hundreds of years.

So why all the ensuing outrage & unnecessary violence over those cartoons? It was the inflammatory nature of those cartoons, in the current environment of hostility in Europe toward Muslims. The cartoons were especially cruel and malicious to the sentiments of ordinary Muslims.

I am pretty sure that if Comedy Central had allowed the 'neutral' image of Prophet Muhammad to be broadcast in the recent episode, it would not have even raised a whimper from most Muslims.

But of course Matt & Trey (and Comedy Central for that matter), being the opportunists they are, created another controversy for us to enjoy & kept their 10-year-old franchise fresh & relevant.

Don't be such a dick, tucker. Spouting nonsense is what internet commenting is all about. Article - light hearted. Commenters 1 and 2 - light hearted. Tucker - apperantly angry about something? Possibly just pretentious.

Commenter 4 (yours truly)- will probably never return to this page...just a random surf-by commenting. Flame on, I won't see it or care.
