Scrubs: His Story III
(S05E19) J.D. is locked in a water
tank for most of this episode, but not before he passes on the gift of voiceover narration to The Janitor. One of the major - and funniest - plots of the episode is Dr. Cox's constant questioning of just how hip and funky Turk is. Mediocre basketball skills, a group of hopelessly unhip friends and a host of other characteristics all combine to have Cox remind Turk over and over again that he is not cool. This is not helped by the fact that Carla is in full baby-prep mode. That includes buying a mini-van and buying a Baby Bjorn.
A lot of the episode involves The Janitor talking to a patient and helping out with another. This makes him feel
useful and such, a feeling that is quickly disspelled when he overhears a couple of the doctors talking and saying he's
essentially useless. As usual, though, his interactions with other people are alternately self-serving, lying and weird
admissions such as having a sixth sense about squirrels feeling fear.
Elliot, meanwhile, is feeling like
she needs to be tougher with her interns. They're covering for one another when someone screws up and she feels like
she needs to find out who committed the smallest of infractions. She's all ready to really chew someone out when Cox
reminds her that loyalty and covering for friends is something she benefitted from herself. As a young intern, Carla
swept quite a few of Elliot's mistakes under the rug and, when she realizes that, she decides to stand down a bit.
It was a good episode but a little...what's the word I'm looking for...thin. Good writing, a solid performance
from everyone, but just not very meaty. My favorite bits include the mural J.D. and Turk paint on the baby's nursery
wall (Optimus Prime vs Megatron), Turk's hooded sweatshirt look in the mini-van and The Janitor telling Kelso it's 3:30
when it's actually 4:15. For some reason that just killed me.
