Zuniga, Foret and DeVitto: A Quint of Quick Questions

by Keith McDuffee, posted Apr 18th 2006 11:45AM
abc family beautiful peopleYou might see a few familiar faces if you tune in to ABC Family's Beautiful People (Mondays, 9 PM ET), a relatively new show about a family that moves to New York from New Mexico to make a fresh start. Starring as Lynn Kerr, we have Daphne Zuniga, who you may remember from her days on Melrose Place and, a little more recently, as Shelly Pierce on American Dreams. Playing her daughters on Beautiful People we have the 21-year-olds Sarah Foret as Sophie and Torrey DeVitto as Karen.

I was lucky enough to catch all three ladies for a new feature that I call "A Quint of Quick Questions." The questions aren't altered from person to person, so their answers can be pretty interesting. I'm still working out the final list of questions (got ideas? Let me know!), but Daphne, Sarah and Torrey were nice enough to answer them like champs.

1. What are your most and least favorite aspects of playing your current character?
Playing Lynn Kerr is a blast! I get to laugh, cry, get angry and be shocked all in one day. She is an emotional open-book which is very gratifying to play.
2. Downloading television shows: The wave of the future or detrimental to the television industry?
Downloading a TV show? I've heard of it, but have no idea how to do it. Technology is yanking us so fast into the future.
3. On which television show would you most want to be a guest star and why?
Oprah! Because I like to talk.
4. Do you Google yourself?
I have, but it is too creepy to see what I have no control over.
5. What do you think of networks yanking shows before they have a chance to develop?
They are afraid of our A.D.D. tendencies, but they gave Seinfeld a chance and Melrose Place too, and look what happened to those shows!
Bonus Question: "Deal or No Deal?"
Torrey DeVitto, my TV daughter, says NO DEAL, I say what she says.

1. What are your most and least favorite aspects of playing your current character?
My favorite part of playing Sophie is of course, the obvious for any actor, which is being someone other than myself. I love her sensitivity and getting to explore teen relationships and family trials in a way I, Sarah wouldn't normally. I also love being a part of a make believe family with Torrey and Daphne. My least favorite part, is also the most challenging, and that is playing 16 while being a 21 year old. There are times I will read a scene and say 'this is really how she's gonna react' and then I go 'oh yeah, she is 16!'
2. Downloading television shows: The wave of the future or detrimental to the television industry?
Downloading TV shows...hmmm...I barely understand TiVo, so I'm not well-versed on downloading shows either. But I think it's great to make shows accessible to people if their schedule doesn't allow them to catch a favorite show, however I understand how important ratings and advertisements are in this business. So, if there's a way to allow downloading while tracking a shows popularity and giving credit where its due, I'm all for it!
3. On which television show would you most want to be a guest star and why?
I don't watch a lot of TV but I have caught a couple episodes of Weeds and really enjoyed it. I think it has a strong cast and creative scripts and I'd love the opportunity to work with talent like that.
4. Do you Google yourself?
I take the 5th! Ok, ok....yes, I've Googled myself before.
5. What do you think of networks yanking shows before they have a chance to develop?
I think its a shame when shows are yanked before they're given a fair shot at building their audience. The only plus side to that is that I think the always looming possibility of being cancelled keeps people on their toes to try and make their project the very best and as fresh and different as it can be.

1. What are your most and least favorite aspects of playing your current character?
My Most favorite aspects of playing Karen are being able to work with the people that I get to work with. And I also love playing Karen's sassyness, she's a fun character to play. My least favorite aspects of playing her are the hours :)
2. Downloading television shows: The wave of the future or detrimental to the television industry?
I'm not really up to speed on all of that yet. But I do know that when you get really busy it is hard to watch your favorite shows, so as long as it doesn't effect the shows ratings then I'll go with wave of the future.
3. On which television show would you most want to be a guest star and why?
I would love to be a voice guest star on the Family Guy. I just think it is such a hillarious show and I've always wanted to do voice work.
4. Do you Google yourself?
hahah yes.
5. What do you think of networks yanking shows before they have a chance to develop?
I think that too many shows are getting yanked so quickly before they have time to develop a strong audience. It takes time to connect with a show, and have the audience grow with the characters.
Bonus Question: "Deal or No Deal?"
No deal! what do you have to lose!
