American Idol: Ace Folds, Chris Hits Bottom

ai logoI'm not shocked at Ace getting the boot. His number has been up since he couldn't top "Father Figure." (Ugh, that was like the first week, right? And did you notice that Queen was not in his "Bad Day" montage? Ha ha ha!) But Chris in the bottom 3?!?!?! I suppose that America is to blame. We let him down. That's what Paula is going to tell us next Tuesday, I'm sure. But, I guess we are to blame. I didn't vote for Chris last night. I felt sorry for Ace, so I voted for him. It was a sympathy vote that I wish I could take back. I figured that Chris would slip into the bottom 3 at least once (before triumphantly winning this whole thing), but not until a later date. I know this sounds silly, and only confirms my complete absorption into AI addiction, but I felt a little bit nauseas when I saw Chris standing there next to Ace. The mere thought of Chris going home prematurely made me want to throw up. So, that confirms it -- I'm officially a member of Team Chris. I'm pledging my allegiance right now.

Paris was also in the bottom 3. Certainly, she did not deserve to be there. Kellie was the worst performer, and Elliott seems to be lacking monumental fan support. The problem with Paris is that she's slipping through the cracks. She was a front runner too early and she's sliding down a slope of our over-hyped expectations. I think that's why she keeps landing in the bottom 3. As far as Kellie is concerned, I think it's going to be a while before she leaves. Simon loves her and isn't giving her the negative comments he should. If any other contestant would have given the same performance that she gave last night, he would have torn them to pieces. He was pretty mild with her. But most importantly, let's not forget that Kellie is pretty freaking hot. Blonde Pretty Skinny. Even with a bad night, that's an equation hard to beat.

Finally, what was up with Taylor doing the psych-out thing by walking over to Chris and shaking his hand and then walking back over to the "safe team?"

 Was that...

a) Taylor trying to be funny?

b) Taylor being a jerk?

c) SOUL PATROL!!!!!!!!!!!

Last night Cris was the best with Taylor coming in second, Elliot third despite Paula acting like she was on her pain pills or drunk...and then Katharine... Our little blond might go home. The judges were tough and kelly didn't show confidence like Katharine and Taylor did. Her choice of song wasn't her. She should have chosen a country love song like something from Faith Hill, or even an old Patsy Cline number. Little Paris was just okay.

Ace's time was up - but it was nice while it lasted, you beautiful boy. Katharine is growing on me, Paris is good, but young (not quite ready for a superstar career), Elliott reminds me of my neighbor, though he has a stronger voice(!), Kellie needs to step up her singing, and Taylor is just too high-voltage for me. Chris is just the right mix - great stage presence, cool personality, and an incredible vpice. SHOCKED was not the right word for how I felt when he was in the bottom three. Chris is my choice for this year's idol!

How can it be a beauty contest with Ace gone?

Ace is a grounded guy and thankfully he isn't arrogant and full of himself. I would like to see him go into acting.... About what they did to Taylor, It was so cruel. The handshake everything was something they made him do. He hated it! Some elements of AI is tabloid and low class. I hate it. To fill the time why don't they just let the contestant finish their song and then show the group saying goodbye. The fans would be happier and AI wouldn't look so low class.

I think the whole thing is just a popularity contest and a beauty pagent. Come on America vote for the most talented not the best looking.

Am I the only one who noticed that Rod Stewart told Taylor to ignore Simon's comments about the dancing, then during a pause in his song Wednesday Rod did a little dance? :)

I think what I learned from the Idol show is that for the middle group, its pretty random who goes. You have the obvious bad ones, they go first and the great ones stasy and then the vast middle, it really makes little sense.

Actually, Taykor was shaking Chris's hand when Seacrest told him he had made the wrong choice. Taylor quickly did a u-turn and joined the other group.

Meanwhile, if anyone else recalls.... last year when they tried to put Bo Bice in the same situation, he planted roots in the center of the stage and refused to join either group.
