Eva Longoria: No longer desperate

by Annie Wu, posted Apr 21st 2006 8:18AM
Eva LongoriaAccording to some recent buzz, Eva Longoria does not plan to renew her contract with ABC's Desperate Housewives. Longoria said, "I don't want to be on 7th Heaven -- on for 20 years and no one's really watching and it's hanging on by a thread." Apparently, she'd rather not waste her time on the show past her contract because she has her sights set solely upon the silver screen (she already has one new film, The Sentinel, co-starring Michael Douglas).

I'm not that into the whole Housewives scene, but I've heard that many think the show has lost its steam since it started out with a bang in 2004. Do you think Longoria's worrying a little too early, or are her fears justified?

I think someone should wake up from this BAD dream. I thought that after Rex "died" that someone was surely having a bad dream. This ending season show was "evil" to say the least. A "grandchild" kills his grandpa, one of the best men on the show is run down and quite possibly not coming back,I mean after THAT scene who could be alive and the snipers shot that kills someone else. Not to mention the so called "one night stand" that is obviously there to drive everyone crazy. She is one that needs to GO away quickly. I am glad that they dropped certain story lines but this season ender left alot to be desired. I think that they should think about massive reloading with maybe a dream angle. After all when people "dream" you can bring anyone back from the dead and change anyones attitudes or/or lifestyles.

You ungrateful and disloyal wannabe. You were a nobody before Desperate Housewives and you are going to fade just as fast after Desperate Housewives. Right now you think you are the biggest thing around, because your PR person is doing his/her job. When reality hits you and you realized just how disrepectful you were of a show that gave you a chance and Mark Cherry who believed you are going to regret your actions today.

You were nothing and you are fast becoming nothing again. People are watching you and your level of loyalty and they are taking note.

I really like the show although there is never an ending to any plot life just changes. With everyone killing someone or setting fire to houses (Arson), hit and run killers, there won't be anyone left for the show, they will all be in jail. Is the the way it will end???? Every being convicted of a crime and in jail???

I remember Eva when she was the villan on the Y&R during daytime soaps.
She was great on that show. Unfortunately downhill ever since.

Maybe it is because D.H. is Tivo'd, and I don't recall too many reruns that others are complaining about.

But, as far as Eva goes, seems like the ego has gotten way too big. Leaving the small screen for the big screen is one thing. The tone as to how this was communicated by Eva is quite another. It is amazing how many actors and actresses that I never cared to watch much again once their ego got the best of them. They are entertainers, and to be honest, not the most valuable members of society. It is easier to replace a good entertainer than replace a good teacher, for instance.

I really enjoy D.H. but like most people am fed up with the reruns. Does it take too long to write a script to keep it new every week? It's either reruns or is preempted for two weeks. Next they will be changing the time slot because of falling ratings and when that makes the ratings even lower they will cancel the show. Aren't they already changing the time slot of Grey's Anatomy? Who does the scheduling for these shows? They are the ones who are putting many of the now popular shows to death, example Hope and Faith and the one with the President that ran for seven years. Leave the time slots alone I say, like they did with Everybody Loves Raymond and Seinfeld. They both started out with low ratings but the networks stayed behind them and kept them and they turned out to be the best of the best. Why don't the networks let the people vote on whether a show should be canceled, not the advertisers, because we would all fast forward the commercials if we all had tivo.

I think that if you don't like the show then simply do not watch it. Its not fair to the rest of us who absolutely love this show, we don't bash the shows you like and complain about how badly they are written and how they need to stop being aired. I LOVE Desperate Housewives and Im not much of a tv person. It took me 3 nights to watch the complete first season on dvd, I just couldn't turn it off. I know reruns can be annoying and upsetting bc you were probably psyched to see a new episode but if the show is good enough (which Desperate Housewives is) then reruns are almost just as good as a fresh episode. I hate whenever I miss a Sunday night airing of Desperate Housewives and I can't wait until season 2 comes out on dvd so that I can watch every episode again. I think this show has very good potential to last for plenty of episodes but I dont like idea of Eva not renewing her contract, she is a part of the "scene," she is a desperate housewive and she, as a character, adds a lot to the show, just as they all do. My fingers are crossed that she does renew it after all!!!!

Eva is talented and doesn't deserve bashing just b/c she knows what will help her to get ahead and uses it. Whatever works for her!! I wish her the best of LUCK. I love D.H and hope to be able to continue watching it for many more years. I even watch the re-runs over again when they come on. I am a BIG fan!!
