The Five: Shows I really wish I was into, but I'm not

Aqua Teen Hunger ForceHave you ever had a friend tell you, "you just HAVE to watch this show. You'll love it!" Or is there a show on that looks like something you'd love, because you like the genre or you like the people behind the scenes or the cast, but for some reason you just can't get into the show (maybe it's just not as good as you thought it would be)?  Here's my list of the five shows I wish I was into, but I'm not.

1. Aqua Teen Hunger Force: A lot people have told me that I would love this show. I love f***ed up animated shows, I like pop culture-centered comedy, and I like the idea that the three main heroes are fast foods. But I just can't get into this show. Maybe it's the pace of the show, or the writing, or the fact I always have to really, really listen to Meat to understand what the hell he's saying, I don'ty know. But I'm just not into this show.

2. Prison Break: I'm sure this show is well-aced and exciting. But movies and TV shows set inside a prison just really depress me and freak me out.

3. Veronica Mars: Keith keeps telling me that I'd love this show, and I did like the one episode I happened to catch, but there's always something else on and/or it's another season-long story I don't want to invest my time in. But maybe I will now that Alias and West Wing are ending (yeah, right, when 30 other new shows will be premiering this fall).

4. Wonder Showzen: I don't watch MTV anymore (I'm way out of their demographic), so I never even think of looking at their schedule to see when this show is on. I did catch one episode on Comedy Central and found it very funny. I guess this is why God made DVD sets.

5. Monk: I like Tony Shalhoub, I know someone who has written for the show, and I like quirky detective shows. So why haven't I gotten into Monk? Beats me.

Why would a TV show set inside a prison depress you, especially if every episode centers on getting the f out.

Get a spine, bob, youre missing one of the best shows on TV.

and ATHF is one of the funniest.

OH MY GOD - Out of that list VM is the must must must watch pick. It is simply top quality TV, funny, snarky, emotion evoking, layered drama full of plot twists and engaging weekly mysteries, fantastic (should be award winning) acting, a great looking cast & top notch writing.

There are reasons why the people who do watch it are such rabid fans and are so vocal about it - because it really is THAT GOOD.

As Joss Whedon said BEST. SHOW .EVER!

Watch it and see

As an aside - I too would highly recommend 24 and Battlestar Galactica - muist see tv both of them and to a lesser extent Prison Break would get in there.

shawn s, you are NOT the only person who isn't into "Lost". I also tried to watch the first ep and was completely uninterested. I just couldn't suspend my disbelief long enough.

Let me add my voice to the throngs who declare that "Veronica Mars" is one of the best shows on TV right now.

I'd add Lost, 24, and American Idol.

Ditto on VM and Monk, but I agree w/ Carissa about Prison Break. The winter break was a huge mistake on Fox's part. I used to obsess over that show and now I just watch out of habit. *Sigh*

I would have to add "24" and "Battlestar Galactica", both of which receive raves from everyone I know but somehow I've never managed to catch one episode of either show. I must say, I'd find it hard to believe that there's a better show on TV right now than "The Sopranos" anyway. And the return of "Entourage" in June will be much welcomed. For me, HBO still has the best episodic TV currently airing.

Aaaccckkkk --- I had heard such good things about Wonder Showzen, how it's the next South Park, etc. I was embarassed to be watching it. Potty mouthed "irreverant" dialogue said by kids, but with no plot or story. That's where it lost me. No point. I had the DVDs on my Netflix queue, but cancelled out after catching it on MTV2. No wonder in it for me.

Veronica Mars and Monk all the way - great dialogue and comedy bits - Prison Break has lost me during season two. The magic is gone and I couldn't care less if they break out. Too bad, the brothers ain't bad in the eye candy department.

ATHF is Pop Culture, not Pop Culture centered.

Oh, I forgot to add: Target is selling the Veronica Mars S1 DVD for $23, but only until Friday, I think. Now is your chance to get caught up on the one show you *should* be into, but aren't - yet.

I like Prison Break a lot, Monk is entertaining, and Wonder Showzen is a hoot on occasion (wildly inconsistent imho, but "Kids on the Beat" always makes me laugh) . . . but Veronica Mars is something else altogether. *Fantastic* television.

Get the VM season one DVD - beg, borrow, steal or Netflix it. You won't be sorry.
