Rosie O'Donnell to replace Meredith Vieira on The View - BREAKING NEWS

by Richard Keller, posted Apr 27th 2006 10:13PM

Rosie O'Donnell, future View hostNo, you haven't tuned into the alternate universe version of TV Squad. What you are seeing here is true blue. According to Extra, Rosie O'Donnell has been named as the replacement for Meredith Riviera on ABC's The View. Meredith is replacing Katie Couric on NBC's Today show when Katie moves to anchor the CBS Evening News this summer. Rosie was on the short list of candidates that included Connie Chung, Patricia Heaton from Everybody Loves Raymond and current CNN American Morning anchor Soledad O'Brien.

ABC will make the official announcement on Friday, April 28th. From 1996-2001 O'Donnell hosted her own syndicated daytime talk show that was a critical and popular success. She is currently executive producer of The Big Gay Show, a comedy sketch show that will appear on the Logo network.

Really happy to see Rosie back on the air. She's so intelligent, funny and always evolving.

What irks me is Elizabeth. She's got some inner nastiness that is far greater than her conservative views. When she supported Anne Coulter's horribly mean-spirited comments about the 911 widows, you gotta believe she's just a mouthpiece for the ultra right! What were the widows' crimes? To insist that the current administration, which always talks a big homeland security line, walk the talk.

She may be cute, but Elizabeth is as nasty as they get. I'd like to see her replaced far more than Star Jones.

A strong woman like Rosie - with valid and stimulating opinions - is a perfect addition to the show.

Rosie O'Donnel on the View!!! I can't believe they would make such a poor choice, I give the show 2 years tops, Maybe if Star also leaves they can get Tammy Faye Baker or some other no talent loud mouth like Rosie to replace her, Good Luck to "The View" your gonna need it!

Does any one know how long her contract is for and what day in Sept she will start this new adventure?

Replacing Meredith with O'Donnell is like replacing a Rolls Royce with a Kia . . . and this has nothing to do with her sexual preference. I could care less what people do in the bedroom. I respect Barbara but I disagree with her selection for Meredith's replacement.

I am so so exited Rosie is joining the cast, it will be fun to see her get fired up. I'm sad Meridith is leaving But 15 million $ is alot to turn down.I wish Meridith luck on her new job. But "The View" is going to be better with Rosie. Now they will have a chance at an EMMY next year.

Wow! Rosie, Joy and Star on the same show!? How will poor old Elizabeth even get a word in edgewise with those three yapping away? Rosie and Joy will be trying to out argue each other over the Hot Topics, and Star will so busy trying to fit in with "A List" Hollywood celebrities, and telling viewers about her and Al's sex life to even care about the Hot Topics! The people at ABC certainly are smart because they know that bringing a controversial person, such as Rosie on board with Star and Joy will make for good TV. I say we all sit back and watch the Jerry Springer action unfold because there is going to be some DRAMA!
