The Daily Show: April 27, 2006

Jon StewartWhile announcing the night's guest was to be Robin Williams, Jon cracked a Paul Williams joke. He then chuckled at the mild response and called himself the oldest man alive, shouting, "Ancient mariner!" Ah, it would have been funnier/made more sense if he had slung an albatross around his neck.

"The Three R's": "Is the dark-suited Rove ever more beautiful than when it is walking into court?" Jon asked of Karl Rove going to testify. Jon was doing a joke about Rumsfeld when the camera cut to him just as someone's head popped out of frame. "Tonight, we're doing a cable-access show for you!" he said, laughing. Jon said the guy was here to give him a sandwich, heh. I didn't get a good view of him, but I think it may have been Dave Gorman.

Gorman came in to talk about Bush's plummeting approval rating in a segment called "Poll Smoking". He had originally wanted to call it "Crunching Numbers" (or "Number Crunching"... whichever) but a TDS employee told him that was too British and that it'd be better to use "poll smoking", a popular American slang term. Anyway, Gorman explained Bush's approval ratings are doing very well because Bush is actually trying to beat his father's low rating. Bush, Sr. had an Iraq war, one term, and a vice president who misspelled 'potatoes'. Dubya has a disastrous Iraq war, two terms (or more?), and a vice president who shot a man in the face.

"The Global Political Stock Market": I thought this segment could have been a little funnier. It fell flat. However, I did enjoy the joke about Zarqawi getting 72 virgins in the afterlife... 72 virgins that look like this. Awww. "Best. Movie poster. Ever."

The night's guest was Robin Williams, the most ADD man in the history of entertainment (if not the world) and the star of RV. He walked in wearing a t-shirt with "The Decider" across his chest. On the inside of his pinstriped blazer, there is green and purple. He's totally wearing Joker colors. This segment wasn't really an interview... it was just Williams doing stand-up for ten minutes. I used to love Robin Williams, but now he gets on my nerves (an exception was made for One Hour Photo, which I really enjoyed). His voice and hyperactivity grated upon my ears... I was so tempted to mute the TV. Well, at least the audience seemed to like it.

Jon/Stephen: Stephen Colbert praises RV to try and get into the blurbs. Moment of Zen: Hey! It's a painting of Bill Clinton and -- oh, there's also one of his wife.
