Stunt Junkies host arrested at Empire State Building

by Bob Sassone, posted Apr 29th 2006 12:05AM
Stunt Junkies host Jeb Ray Corliss IV tried to jump off the 86th floor of the Empire State Building today (wearing a parachute, of course, under a fat suit), but was stopped by police who were tipped off by an anonymous caller.

Corliss says the stunt was safe and fine, but the Discovery Channel doesn't agree. It has cut all ties with the stuntman/host:

"We are beyond disappointment at his serious lack of judgement and his reckless behavior. As such, Mr. Corliss will not be associated with any future Discovery Networks projects, including future episodes of Stunt Junkies."

Discovery probably didn't have anything to do with it, but they shouldn't have fired him for it. I didn't even know he had the show until I read about his Empire stunt! Discovery should give him a bonus for all the free advertisement! I'm a skydiver myself and I can say Jeb Corliss is well-known in the skydiver world. This stunt would have caused many more people to tune in to Stunt junkies on Discovery.

I liked the Daily News' headline for the story: "Holy Chute!"

Gotta love the NYC tabloids...

So a guy walks into the Empire Sate Building wearing a fat suit and latex mask which I read was valued at $15,000 and decides to jeopardize his cushy TV job by jumping off the Empire State Building? I'm sorry, but I refuse to believe that Discovery had nothing to do with it. If Corliss had gotten away and aced the stunt, you would have seen commercials for it all over the network. The only reason they are disowning Corliss, IMO, is because a cop got hurt trying to get him off the ledge, which means an automatic assault charge.
