She-Ra coming to DVD

by Adam Finley, posted May 1st 2006 2:03PM

she-raWhile closing the book on the successful half-hour animated toy commercial that was He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, the creators realized something: 'Holy cow, we need to find a way to make money off of little girls, too.' Enter She-Ra, Princess of Power, the long lost sister of He-Man. She-Ra was first introduced in the 1985 film "The Secret of the Sword" which then led into the TV series. All 93 episodes of the series will be released on DVD eventually, but not in any specific order. The first release will contain episodes voted on by fans, as well as the feature film, and will be available on July 18, with three more volumes covering the rest of the series to be released over the next year. I watched He-Man religiously as a child, but never really got into She-Ra. I assume, other than the protagonist being a woman, that it didn't venture too far from the "fight evil and learn an important lesson" template of He-Man. Did anyone out there watch it?

I think your commenter is confused with Superman and Supergirl. They are cousins, but in the opening titles to She-Ra, Adora (her altar ego) says, "I am Adora, He-Man's twin sister and the defender of Crystal Castle..."

Well, I have no idea, but both Wikipedia and He-Man.org claim they're brother and sister *scratches chin*

She-Ra ROCKS! This made my day!! Point of clarification: She-Ra was He-Man's cousin, not sister. Common misconception.

I was all over She-Ra as a kid. I'm pretty sure she subliminally served as a role model and influenced the kind of woman I am today. In fact, I often insist my coworkers refer to me as 'The Princess of Power.'

Not only did I watch the show, but I own She-Ra, all of her friends, some horses (I think) and her castle. I loved/hated that castle. The second you put it together and get She-Ra to go up the elevator, the whole damn thing comes crashing down around you.

My younger sister is named Shira (pronounced the same as She-ra). She started school in 1985, and as result could not escape the title of princess of power, and for some reason she hated it and hates the show. Her Birthday happens to be the day htese are released. So I know what she is getting for her Birthday :)

I did!! But then I'm a girl and that was their intent wasn't it?? (Though I watched He-man too). I liked staring at the cartoonish muscle bound men. Heh.
