American Idol: Silly weird

logoParis' wardrobe choices? Silly. Paula's jewelry? Weird. Taylor's dance moves? Silly weird. Another great night to be an American Idol fanatic! And when I say "great," I mean "freaking bizarre!" As far as musical talent goes, this was no musical standards/Rod Stewart needs a plug night.

But tonight was completely entertaining.

Chris Daughtry- Okay, once again ... does anybody seriously think that Chris can lose at this point? The man is sexy. He can sing. He's entertaining. Maybe it's just my sex organs talking, but I love this guy! I honestly don't understand how he's not already famous. To me, he doesn't sound like he should be on the radio, he sounds like he already is on the radio. Even with the second song being sorta lame, I was transfixed. I can't take my eyes off the guy. He just has that certain blah blah blah (insert clever French and/or Jewish saying here.)

Elliott Yamin- Alright, does anybody else find it sad that the most personality we've really seen from Elliott, thus far, has been when he mistakenly jogged to the wrong side of the stage? I don't hate Elliott, but I don't like him. He doesn't give me a reason to like him, and we're from the same state. I should be rooting for the hometown boy, but I'm not. He's got an amazing voice, but he ranks very low on my erotic thermometer. And with it being Spring, I'm looking for my temperature to be raised. Elliott couldn't even raise my mailbox flag.

Katharine McPhee- Serious baby equals creepy baby. Holy crap, those baby pics were scary! I mean like, Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, scary! And, she didn't even make a sound when she was born. What? Maybe she's a robot, or carved of wood. Regardless, Jepetto should have given her a smaller ass. I missed the wardrobe malfunction last week, but I enjoyed her rolling around on the floor this week. But I wish that Ryan wouldn't have ruined the surprise. Him yelling out, "Katharine's on the floor!" moments before her performance proved that Ryan is a premature exclamator. (I'm trying to see how many veiled sexual references I can get into this post.)

Paris- I'm bored with Paris. I'm tired of her silly outfits and her ever-changing hair weave. And, I thought that doing a Prince song was stupid. It felt very karaoke, but not in a good way (see Taylor). I must admit that she sounded pretty good doing Mary J. Blige, but that outfit was ridiculous. When the camera first cut to her, I almost threw my bowl of ice cream at the television screen. That's how angry I get at bad fashion. (No veiled sexual reference for you, Paris.)

Taylor Hicks- Oh man, he just went totally bonkers tonight. I laughed all the way through his first performance and I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. I'm gonna call it a good thing. The man knows how to entertain! Everybody was making a big deal about his big fall at the end. (By the way, how many "Ryan Seacrest lying down with a man" jokes were rocketing across America at that moment?) But the dance move I really enjoyed was that Thighmaster leg move that he kept doing. I think it's called the Charleston, but it makes me think of Jimmy Stewart at that dance in It's a Wonderful Life. Only three of you are going to know what I'm talking about, but that's okay. It's the international sign for white man gone wild.

My pick for elimination- Paris

My vote- Taylor

Elliot has great technique, but he sounds like he's practicing vocal exercises not trying to connect with people. I listen to him, think wow what gymnastics, then forget the whole thing. He's got a lot of sizzle and very little steak. Too bad.

I'm sorry, but what's the point of watching this show based on who gets your sex organs going? These types of comments about Chris remind me of the fans who went on and on about how hot Justin Guarini was. They didn't care enough to buy his album, so I guess that shows us what's ahead for Chris.

It's also interesting that you say Elliott hasn't shown any personality when Chris is the one I don't really remember doing or saying anything. I guess being hot means that you can be boring. I think Elliott has a funny, warm personality, and I don't think he looks that bad either.

No offense, but this isn't a very well-written recap at all.

I agree Paris doesn't have the "IT" factor. I can't get the comment Simon made about her looking like a little girl pretending to be Beyonce. She looks like she's pretending to be someone she's not every week. I'm like...will the real Paris please stand up. Elliott has a face for radio and thats sad cause I thinks he's not bad looking. Chris is someone I'd pay to go see so he's my winner. Kat, yuk...go home already and Taylor...I can't watch him without thinking he's on something.

Per Access Hollywood tonight, the monitors went out on Katharine last night during the first song and she couldn't hear the band or herself very well. Some friend of the family reported that. He said when that happens you tend to undersing in order to hear. Could explain why she was off during that song. (Just passing on the info I just saw.)

There is no doubt that both Paris & Elliot are talented. The problem is that this is a viewer "call-in" and vote type of program that quite often rewards those that many of us would dismiss.

Chris, Katherine and Taylor are also talented, but have been able to distinguish themselves with their performance styles and build a following to boot.

Chris and Katherine are the predictable choices with Taylor having an outside chance to be in the final "two" should one of the above-mentioned falters because "their" voters take their past successes for granted and not vote.

Inevitably, Paris will head home this week and, unfortunately, Elliot will follow soon after.

One last point.

I am NOT one of Elliot's voters, but if there were ever was a person that deserved a "Cinderella" ending on American Idol, it would be him. Unfortunately, I just don't believe it will ever come close to happening.

i'm tired of chris too. at first i liked that there was another rocker on the show, but that was before i knew his definition of rock was live with some creed and staind mixed in.

the show is a singing competition... get over the fact that chris looks better than elliot and just listen to the music.

click my name for my recap.

Joe T and Chris H...THANK YOU!!!

Chris has an OK voice. It's just OK because it sounds fine initally, but he has *no idea how to sing properly* and he will blow his voice out eventually. If you don't believe me, listen to his second song last night and Simon's comments on it...or better yet ask Andrea Boccelli and David Foster! Chris screams, which last I checked was not singing.

Secondly, he is one dimensional and boring and takes himself way too seriously.

Furthermore, Creed, Fuel...yeah you may hear it on the radio, but IT SUCKS. Hearing something on the radio does NOT mean it is necessarily good. More people eat Mc Donald's than Lobster Bisque, too. Whatever...pfft.

Katherine is still a Stepford wife and the best thing she ever did was have a wardrobe malfunction. Finally made her worth watching, though for the wrong reasons, and even THAT did not cause her to show any humanity.

She also SUCKED last night, as she has many times before. Even when that overtrained Stepford voice warbles it out the right way, SHE DOES NOT CONNECT W/ WHAT SHE SINGS. You need emotions in order to do that, and emotions are usually greatly aided by not being a robot from Stepford.

..and who cares about the fashion garbage, this is not Project Runway or America's Next Top Model, so can it already. Clay Aiken is still one of the most successful people to come off this show--and let it be saud that I do not care for his music---but he is proof that you *can* market a singer who is a train wreck in the image department.

Chris needs to go! There is nothing that differentiate's himself from anything we hear on the radio or in contemporary rock music. He picks obscure songs that are immediately forgettable (save for Bryan Adams) and his walking with the mic stand shtick is getting tiresome. He's a Live impersonator and doesn't bring anything new to the table. I will not be sad to see him go.

I'm rooting for Taylor all the way!

Paris was "screechy and annoying"? Wasn't that VERY similar to the description Simon gave one time of Fantasia's voice ("like two cats in a fight")? PARIS will outlast her Idol roots because she might not have the carzy fan bases required to win this overblown karaoke contest, but she has the soul and "recording" voice neede for a long and successful career. When Paris leaves, it's a confirmation that American Idol NEVER was about the singing.
