Grey's Anatomy: Blues for Sister Someone
(S02E23) Yes, I know, we're way late with
this. But better late than not at all, right?Anyway, since everyone's probably watched and digested this episode by now, let's just go over the interesting stuff:
Looks like Chris O'Donnell's character Finn has been granted his "Official Annoyingly Cutsey Nickname" by Meredith: McVet. Clever. Anyway, the chemistry between them is palpable, and it seems like Finn knows he's in the stronger position. He asks Meredith out and she stammers, saying she's knitting sweaters and not really dating, before she finally comes back and says yes. After their "date" (more on that below) leaves Meredith a mess, he offers his shower. Again, she stammers and hesitates. He's confident: she can either shower at his place (upstairs from the vet office) or go home with horse goop all over her. He won't try to sleep with her. Her choice. Wow. I guess you can be pretty confident when you look like Chris O'Donnell, right?
Oh, about the horse goop: Meredith seems to think that there's something wrong with dating the vet for the dog she and Derek share. I don't get it. It's not like McVet's his buddy or anything; he just checks Doc for hernias and stuff. Anywho, she realizes how dopey she's being and comes back to McVet's office to agree to the date, and she suggests they go out that night. But he has to run an errand first, to which Meredith has no problem going to. When she finds out the errand is birthing a horse, she actually smiles (first time I've seen Meredith smile in a while) and jumps right in. Ooooh, she's falling in love already!
Of course, you wouldn't expect a surgical resident to jump in on a veterinary procedure so enthusiastically. Especially after listening to Cristina put down Finn's profession repeatedly (of course Cristina wouldn't date someone who wasn't powerful. Not in her nature). But it was cool to see Meredith get into a relationship in a normal fashion for once, by dating before sleeping with someone. The smile on her face told me she's going to enjoy herself... hopefully. Of course, Derek runs in at the end of the episode with a sick Doc, sees a freshly-showered Meredith come down in one of McVet's shirts and gets pissed. Hm. So much for being a "friend", right? ("We're friends" is this show's version of "we were on a break!", so hopefully we won't hear it anymore.)
At least the discovery helps Derek come home and have a hot night with Addison. Let's just say they weren't exactly burning things up before that. Addison had enough to worry about, what with Alex undermining her at every turn, because he hates being on the OB/GYN rotation. The fact that he ratted Addison out to the harried mother's husband -- it involves Jean Louisa Kelly (always adorable), seven kids, a religious husband who wants a huge family, and an accidentally on-purpose tube tying during a c-section -- was pretty low, even for him. But Addison gets back at Alex, putting him on her service permanently. Perfect set up for hot lovin' with Derek, right?
Other plotlines: Izzy presses George for details on his personal life, all the while getting closer and closer to the now-mobile Denny (much to Bailey's chagrin). Bailey feels she's being mommy-tracked, and Webber basically tells her as much. And Burke takes a pacemaker out of his musical hero's chest, because the man just can't play the viloin as well with the pacemaker in. Even though Burke doesn't want to do it, he understands why the pacemaker needs to come out, even if it kills his hero.
Damn, that's a lot of stuff to follow, isn't it? Probably too much. I mean, there were some nice moments: Cristina's understanding after Burke saw his hero die on the table, George coming back to the house, Callie in tow, after a lawyer with seizures (played by Jayne Brook of Chicago Hope) shows George and Izzie how solid their friendship is, and any scene with Jean Louisa Kelly (did I mention how adorable she is?). Not a bad episode, but nothing earth-shattering either. Looking forward to the final couple of episodes of the season.
