American Inventor: The final group presents

by Keith McDuffee, posted May 4th 2006 11:15PM
american inventor(S01E08/S01E09) Well, finally we'll be onto the final four next week. It's been a long road to get here, and I don't mean the for the inventors; I'm talking about the viewers! So, as to not suck you into any more time on this before the finale (it is just a finale left, right?), here's the quick breakdown from tonight:

Hour one: The Toner Belt and HeadlineIt don't make it, and the Word Ace moves on. The judge really surprised me this time. I was so sure the HeadlineIt would make it.

Hour two: PureFlush, Restroom Survival Kit don't make it. The Anescia Survival Capsule does. I wish the clip wasn't against the capsule, but the capsule is the real invention here that needs to be in the final four.

Any gueses yet which one will win the whole thing? I'd really like to see the Anescia go into more active development, even if it does need a lot of work.

"For the inventor to think that Detroit will start making more room in the back seat to accommodate his invention (if I understood him correctly) is ridiculous." I completely agree. Our cars are too big as it is, and his invention, as it is now, is way too impractical--but this guy had the biggest sob story of them all, how could they not choose him?

Although the Anescia looks interesting, I see problems. One question is what happens when an infant or toddler drops a handful of Cheerios or a toy into the gap between the inner shell and the outer shell? Will it still rotate smoothly?
I also would have liked to see exactly how you get a baby into the thing. Sure it works fine with dolls, but trying to put a squriming baby into that sphereical thing--while it keeps rocking all around from the slightest touch--seems like it could be a challenge. Also, the thing is far too big in its present form, and I wonder whether that can really be solved. For the inventor to think that Detroit will start making more room in the back seat to accommodate his invention (if I understood him correctly) is ridiculous.

I could have used that bathroom clip last nite at my daughter's school. When I chose a stall without a working lot, I just laughed, thinking, I hope that woman gets that clip into the dollar stores soon!

Although I see your point it is very difficult to decide what is more important...Saving a baby's life or saving us some embarrassment behind a bath room door. I thought a name for that contraption to prevent the door from opening ought to be Pee-Vention! lol Needless to say most of the worthwhile inventions will be mass produced by some savvy investor.

I would really like to buy one of those restroom clip kits! It is really awful when you find one of those broken restroom locks........almost impossible to hold the door and use the restroom at the same time! I thought that was thrown out without much thought. I don't even understand that baby holder.......it seems way too large for any ordinary car. The pure flush also had merit, and could be used by everyone. The restroom clip can be used by half the population, but the Survival Capsule will only be used by people with small babies. Of course, if it saves one life it will be worthwhile, but I would not think it would be useful all that often........what do you all think?
