Lost producers: DUI not related to Ana Lucia's death

by Anna Johns, posted May 5th 2006 8:06AM
michelle rodriguez; dui; lostWell, Ana Lucia is definitely dead. Libby? Maybe not. Yet.

In an interview with TV Guide's Aussiello, Lost producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse explain why they killed off Ana Lucia, played by Michelle Rodriguez. A few highlights:
  • Calling herself a 'nomad', Rodriguez insisted that she only be on the show for one season;
  • When Rodriguez got her DUI, the producers considered changing her storyline because they were worried it would look like they were punishing her by killing off her character;
  • Same for Watros. Libby wasn't shot because Watros got a DUI;
  • Michelle Rodriguez plays well with others.

Yeah right Rodriguez and Watros probably got better offers to do other tv shows and movies. I mean, why try to stick around for maybe a few more years and make a few more millions on the highest rated tv series. Yeah like they both would rather try their luck elsewhere? Its too much of a coincidence that they both got killed off after just a week of servicing their punishment. The producers bumped them off because they were liabilities and covered it up because they would get flack for firing the two over personal incidents instead of being professionally related. Retards, if you were the producers, cashing in on the multimillion dollar series, and will make you rich and sucessful, would you risk keeping these two f**k-ups on and risk potential problems?

I have to side with the people requesting "No Spoiler in the Title Line", please. I've been going to message boards for over a decade now. With Satellite TV, people in other corners of the world not getting the program until weeks later, & now Tivo. It just stands to reason that some people will see the program before others. At least a week has always the given clemency period on other boards I visit. I've even seen verbal warnings handed out to repeat offenders. At one time a Spoiler was enough to get you flamed.

I have to think the one's hollering "Get A Life", perhaps you should find a little discretion & tact. Not everyone can get to it that minute.

I have a life , dont want to record and watch, If I miss an ep I want to read about it on-line. You people with TIVO must live in front of ur tv. U people need to get a life and stay on real time. Wake up and quit dreaming its not the end of the world if u see a spoiler. speaking of which Hawaii people have lived with this for what 50-75 years, they go home with the tv off so they wont hear sports scores before they see the time delay coverage. They have no problem with it so GET A LIFE

I have to say this. I NEVER look at this site until AFTER I watch the episode. Otherwise, what's the point? I watch the episode then come on here to see what everyone has to say about it.

So maybe you guys that are worried about spoilers just shouldn't bother to come to this page until you watch it?

This was a total spoiler for me also, via the RSS feed title. I skip articles about shows I haven't watched yet, and I only see the titles using RSS. Please use more caution with spoilers in the RSS title in the future. It shouldn't be that hard to avoid.

I usually watch Lost ASAP for this reason, but in this case I was out of town until Friday, and saw this post on Friday. :(

I think the producers would lie if they were dumping her because of the DUI conviction. They'd risk losing a big part of their audience otherwise.
The show seems aimed at the demographic that's most likely to get arrested for driving drunk.

I gotta admit, I'm with the spoiler folks above. This is the age of TiVo and it can no longer be reasonably assumed that people watch TV shows when they air. I suggest the no-spoilers (before the cut, of course) period be extended one week after a show's original airing.

(Does anybody else remember Slashdot's "The Lone Gunmen Are Dead" mega-spoiler?

I'm still bitter about that.)

not everyone is in the US. we are seven eps behind here in Australia, so this post just spoiled me in a big way. Like Bo Link, I read this vis my feed reader and the title was just there in the list of other feeds and completely impossible to avoid reading.

It's kind of hard to avoid a spoiler when it's right in the headline. I wasn't planning on reading about anything having to do with Lost until I watched this past episode. Unfortunately, my feed reader contained a spoiler right in the headlines for TV Squad. I never thought just scanning the headlines would ruin the episode for me. Maybe next time TV Squad could be a little more sesitive to this when writing headlines. I don't care about revealing spoilers in the main content of the article.
