Huff: So... What Brings You to Armageddon?
(S02E07) The Huffstodt home just can't have a quiet evening. With everything going on in this family, it's a wonder they haven't tried to kill each other... knock on wood. For the most part, the problems seem to be stemming from Ben. He's still hanging around, after he supposedly only had ten hours before he had to go away forever to who knows where. The odd thing is that he's suddenly taken quite the interest in his estranged family. I'm starting to think that maybe he's sick.
They gave us the impression that he's no longer with his Chinese (Japanese? Korean? I forget...) wife and he's clearly looking for some company. The only problem is that nobody, especially Izzy, wants Ben sticking around. In one of the most powerful scenes so far this season, Izzy completely went off on Ben and you can clearly see why Danner won the Emmy for best supporting actress in a drama series last year.
We didn't get much from Teddy this time around, but he's still hanging out with Alyssa while she sells her jewelry on the boardwalk. What we did get was the return of Byrd. He's still breaking into houses only now he's creating a photo exhibit. His theme? Dead animals photographed in other people's homes, while being placed in compromising positions. Apparently it's some sort of social commentary. Sounds interesting until Byrd got busted by a homeowner. Literally busted though... the guy punched him in the face. When he got home, Ben was the one who reprimanded Byrd. Again, the man has suddenly taken a keen interest in the family he's barely seen in years.
Huff continues to visit Lena (Angelica Huston). It's clear he's starting to realize he's got some problems of his own. His subconscious (the homeless Hungarian) knows what's up, but Huff still can't say it. Lena is on to him though, and the next time they meet, I think we're going to see the two of them experiment with some ecstasy. Apparently, Lena has had some previous successes treating patients with MDMA.
Russell has finally hit rock-bottom. After last week's incident with the crystal-meth, he wakes up in an alley, misses an important deposition, and finds out that his job is in serious jeopardy. Kelly is starting to worry though. She's finally realizing that unless she intervenes, her baby won't have a father.
Confrontations are starting to occur between everyone now... the entire dynamic of this family is completely disintegrating but I'm hoping that the rest of the season will be devoted to fixing it. Although, if Huff starts taking drugs more often, we might see him decline as bad as Russell has. That might be a stretch, but we'll see.
