Latest rumor: Futurama coming back to Fox?

by Joel Keller, posted May 8th 2006 1:36PM
FuturamaOK, here's the latest of the thirteen kajillionth rumor we've heard about Futurama in the last six months: According to this CNN article that goes through a bunch of rumors about the 2006-07 season, the speculation ahead of Fox' upfront presentation is that they are going to begin airing new episodes of the Matt Groening cult classic. Conisdering we've been hearing things about movies and new episodes for some time, this isn't much of a surprise. But, at the very least, CNN is reporting it instead of some site like futuramaisthebestcartoonever.com, so maybe this is getting very close to reality.

(Look at the 2nd paragraph for info on Futurama.)

Ooh, this makes me even more anxious about the upfront presentations week...

We can only hope this is indeed getting close to reality. If Fox does announce that Futurama will be back, it'll be further proof that Futurama was a keeper.

I can't wait, if they come out on DVD I'll be the first in line. If they're on TV my Tivo will be working overtime!! Awsome show!

Comedy Central outbid Adult Swim for broadcast rights to Futurama. I think they take over next year.

I guess the 'movies' are gonna be the same as the Family guy 'movie' was; actually 3 episodes back-to-back.

If they make 4 movies that would make 12 episodes which is enough for a 1/2 season at least. I FOX wants them they could air them or they'll end up on Adult Swim.

In a bumper last night on [adult swim] they had a statement from Matt G. confirming that there will be 4 direct to DVD Futurama movies, they are currently in production, and [as] basically stated that they will not have broadcast rights to those movies, no mention of FOX broadcasting the movies either.

The article says new episodes are being produced, and will either be on Adult Swim or Fox.
