Malcolm creator talks show biz

malcolm in the middleThis Sunday the final episode of Malcolm in the Middle will air on FOX. I fell in love with this show during its first few seasons, but eventually my interested began to wane and I don't think I've seen a single new episode in at least the last three years. Somehow, I think I just got used to the show's shtick and lost interest. Also, as shallow as it may sound, I liked the show better when the kids were younger and their antics seemed more cartoonish. At any rate, the Chicago Sun-Times has a fun interview with Linwood Boomer, the show's creator whose credits also include Night Court and 3rd Rock from the Sun. It seems Boomer didn't have much luck pitching the show to other networks before landing it on FOX, and he makes no bones about the ignorance of studio executives who are unwilling to take chances on anything. The series finale, titled "Graduation," airs on May 14 at 8:30.

I think that the writers of the show have really messed up the last few years. They have not really been using the supporting cast the last few years...we rarely see stevie, and the Francis character fizzled out (lost his job at the ranch and we are only told about it), not to mention Craig ( cragis character was great and he is hardly used)...the episodes used to be fun, but it seem the last 2 seasons they have only been going through the motions...I do agree the dewey character has really begun to shine...at times they come across with a good episode...like the bomb shelter...but then the next week they flop again...I dont blame the actors..I blame the writers

The show NEVER lost its quality. The re-runs hold up. The last few seasons, I really began to appreciate Brian Cranston's talents and the Dewey character came into his own.
I knew its days were numbered when the show was moved to Friday to make room for whatever that crap for a show that Michael Rappaport should sue his agent for getting him in.

Hopefully, Linwood Boomer and also Alex Reid will produce other great shows in the future. I will absolutely miss this one.
