CSI: Miami - Shock

by Jonathan Toomey, posted May 9th 2006 11:03AM

CSI: Miami; CBS(S04E23) I can't say that I was a big fan of this episode. It had one hell of a cliffhanger ending, but it came out of nowhere! Which I suppose is why they call it a cliffhanger, but still... it made no sense to me.

Horatio and Marisol moved pretty fast on the wedding plans. It only took them a couple of days to get something set up with a Justice of the Peace. I didn't get why no one from the lab was going though. Delko was initially against it and Calleigh and Wolfe only picthed in on a bottle of champagne. Natalia and Alexx didn't go either. I can understand why they wanted to have a small ceremony, but it wouldn't hurt to have a couple of co-workers present? Whatever. On to the cases.

First off, am I the only one who had never heard the term "frenemies?" Enemies in public, friends in private? That's a new one for me, but the dead fashion designer and the Manhattan socialite (who was suspected of killing her) were just that. Long story short, the designer's assistant killed her with the tanning iron in the bathroom after she found out she was being cut from their upcoming reality show. There was another case involving some designer drugs but it didn't really impact the show much.

We got a little more on the mole... sort of. We already knew that Wolfe and Horatio had a little plot to try and figure out who it was. But apparently, Wolfe had been lying about the damage to his eye. He can see fine, but that's not what he was telling Alexx. He was testing her... so it looks like she isn't the mole. Also, what's with Wolfe still flirting with Calleigh? I thought he went out on that date with Natalia. Unless that was part of his mole hunt too. I think it may have been.

The episode ended with Horatio and Marisol (Eric finally came too) walking to their wedding. Then it cuts to a sniper with his gun trained on Horatio's back. That's what I don't get. Who wants Horatio dead? We'll have to wait until next week and part one of the season finale to find out. Hold your breath though because it looks like someone else takes the bullet for H.

Does anyone know the music track used at the very beginning of the episode, when the celebrities are arriving by boat?

I've looked far and wide and cannot find it ANYWHERE. :(

My take: if Marisol dies she is obviously not returning next season. Also if they reveal the " lab mole" in the finale that person/character also will be history.

As much as I dislike Caruso, I don't think Miami can survive without him. NYPD Blue had Franz and Smits to solve Caruso's exit. He was actually never missed on Blue. There is no one on Miami that could ease a Caruso exit.

Who says that Marisol won't survive? Plus if she's shot shouldn't the crime lab be taken off the case because they are all so close to the victims of the shooting. If she does die there will be an interesting dynamic between Delco and Horatio, he will inevitably blame Horatio for her death. After all the snipers are aiming for him. Wouldn't it be fabulous if this had nothing to do with the Mal Noche Gang and instead had something to do with him be sued in New York when he did CSI: NY? Oh well I'll definantly watch. Wouldn't surprise me if David Caruso did decide to leave because he usually does that (NYPD Blue) after gets a little fame.

I cannot understand why they took the suspense out of Part 1 of the season finale by letting the preview reveal that Marisol was shot. Also, I think the TV writers of America should get past the age-old plot line of shooting or killing off the fiance of a show's lead character.

The only reason that I watch CSI Miami is David Caruso. He is a very talented and not to mention extremely handsome actor. The ridiculous story line between his character and Marisol is simply a re-hashing of old story lines and cliffhangers from the 60's, 70's and 80's so the networks can retain interest and ratings. I was actually interested in seeing the softer side of Horatio, but with Marisol being shot in next week's episode, this story line is probably history. Since two actors are reportedly not returning next season, Marisol must be one of them. If David Caruso leaves, I am outta here as well. Network t.v. basically sucks anyway.

"Frenemies" was introduced in the TV world (at least the pay-TV world) on Oct. 1, 2000, in an episode of "Sex and the City." http://imdb.com/title/tt0698636/

Cheers,

The episode wasn't all that great IMO. The part that I thought was really far fetched (beyond the usual) was when Horatio walked in to talk to Delko about the 'GHOST' drug and just knew that it was a text message # to get the drug. How far up his butt did he pull that from?
