Star Jones off The View: BREAKING NEWS

by Chris Thilk, posted May 9th 2006 10:25AM
Rosie O'Donnell and Star JonesPage Six is reporting (I keep looking at that and still can't believe I typed it) that Star Jones is being shown the door by Barbara Walters and the producers of The View. Jones' departure was apparently one of the conditions of Rosie O'Donnell joining the show, a condition Walters and other knew and agreed to when they were courting O'Donnell. Jones' agents are denying the host is on her way out but others say they're sniffing around for a new home for her. Gayle King, a friend of Oprah Winfrey, is apparently in line to replace Jones on the show. The boisterous Jones has come under some fire recently for a series of disagreements with management over her agreements to pitch products or mention brand names on the show.

I have to tell you the absence of Jones on the show would absolutely kill the unintentional comedic possibilities inherent in a pairing of her and O'Donnell. I might have overcome the gag reflex both of these personalities cause individually, much less together, just to see when one would pounce on the other on the air.

Nothing you have done to Star surprises me.You should have backed her up.I never have trusted you.You are sneaky...and only like black people that you feel stay in their place...except for Oprah... who is more powerful than you! How dare you say Star did not leave with dignity.Who are you to speak of something you know nothing about. She just chose to stand up to masser that's all. I would have done the same thing!Your show lost a touch of class. Now all you have is a hag...a moron ...a dyke...and a demon!Shame on you!!!You have lost your African American audience. We Love Star!!! I hope Rosie and Joy rip each others eyes balls out.If you have any sense you will add another strong African American...I dare you to try someone like Monique...but you won't because she would never bow down to the Great Barbara WAwa.You probably don't even know who she is!Like Dave Letterman said lay of the gin Barbara. You disgust me.

While not a fan of Star Jones (I find her self-centeredness a turn-off), I did appreciate her religious convictions and her ability to explain topics of legal or social importance and I will miss that intelligent input to The View's dialogue. I was, however greatly upset by Meredith's departure as, for me, she was the most down to earth of them all; I cannot in my right mind imagine what they are thinking by replacing her with the loud-mouthed, obnoxious, and offensive Ms. O'Donnell, but I'm sure future ratings will prove out what a giant mistake ABC has made.

Don't worry about Star. This publicity is helping her. She isn't being replaced by Rosie. Rosie replaced Vieira.
I don't like Gayle. She is just Oprah's protegee. Otherwise she wouldn't be where she is now. I don't worry about their future. They have more money than all of us together. And more.

I like to watch the view whenever I am available to do so but with Rosie coming on broad I would not be looking at it period. I liked Star on "The View" and I also think she is one of the most intelligent cohost there. Booting her for Rosie is so unfair.

1) For those who keep saying they are replacing Star with Rosie, you are wrong. Rosie is replacing Meredith. From published reports, Star has been on the outs long before Meredith announced she was leaving and Rosie was hired. Star's Q rating has been dropping steadily for the last year or so.

2) I'm not a fan of Star but I did appreciate her legal point of view. Her wedding was a big turn off and so has been the big glam makeover. I didn't care for Katie Couric's big glam makeover and how interviews became about her legs too. But Star did bring an interesting point of view to some topics and I appreciated it.

3) I never realized how much I enjoyed Meredith until she was gone. I knew I liked her but I thought it was the mix I enjoyed but without her it's crazy. Barbara can not run Hot Topics very well. She's scattered and stumbles over her words. It's better when she is providing input than when she's running the segments.

4) Darn, we can't get rid of Elisabeth now! So glad to see that I'm not the only one turned off by her political views and moral stance on things. A few times she has been so irrational that I wondered why Star and Joy didn't just strangle her right there. She does the "style" segments rather well and that's her specialty, Hot Topics is not!

5) I'm willing to give Rosie a chance and see how she does in a group setting. I'm sure she knows she has to tone it down some and can't wear sweats every day. But I'm not sure she can overcome the persona she has become in the last couple of years. She's not the old sweet Queen of Nice anymore.

6) I want to see if they really do bring in Gayle because I think she could manage Hot Topics very well. Either way they need to bring someone in who can handle that day to day so Babs can go back to 2 or 3 days a week.

7) I always knew I liked Joy and found her humor to be very quick. But the last couple of days she has cracked me up more so than ever. I know she's another love them or hate them person but I love her. :)

Lastly, does anyone really read all of these comments when it gets to be this many? Is there a quick way to get to the end of a comment thread like this? Just curious.

I believe all this bickering has to do with ratings. People love gossip.

My prediction is The View will continue with high ratings. Rosie has a lot of fans especially with the gay community. She also attracts celebrities to the show. Remeber her last show? I don't care about her, but that's the way it will be. And Barbara knows that.

I hope another station will put on a show such as the view so that I can enjoy quality TV. Having Rosie on the View is a BIG MISTAKE. What will Rosie have to offer to the viewing audience. NOTHING,NOTHING,NOTHING. The View, I believe will be cancelled in the near future.

I THINK IT'S SAD THAR STAR HAS TO GO,HOWEVER I DON'T KNOW ALL THE CO HOST PROBLEMS WITH THE OTHER HOST. NEVERTHELESS I THINK WAS GOOD INSPIRATION TO HEAVY SET WOMEN BECAUSE SHE WAS SO BEAUTIFUL I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY SHE HARD A PROBLEM WITH HER WEIGHT. I THINK HER BEAUTY AS A VOLUPUTOUS WOMAN MADE HER FAMOUS. SORRY TO HER SHE GOING AND LOSE TOO MUCH WEIGHT.

I applaud Star Jones for not playing the "game" according to the rules of those who belittled and backstabbed her. Her decision to come out about her firing took courage. For the past year her transformation was the only thing that made that hen party worth watching. I was disappointed that she seemed to lose her spark as she lost the weight, but now I wonder if she wasn't instructed to "shut-up and sit there" so she wouldn't outshine the pseudo-divas. I won't be watching, but I'll bet they all get their dues when the queen of nasty joins the show. The bloom came off of that rosie a long time ago. Good luck, Star. I'll bet you land in a good place and get a chance to shine again.
