Lost: ?

by Keith McDuffee, posted May 10th 2006 10:48PM
lost(S02E21) I've been waiting for this episode ever since I saw its most interesting title: a simple question mark. We all knew what it would refer to once we saw the mysterious map Locke caught a glimpse of, but it was knowing that this would be an Eko-centric episode that, to me, made it all the more interesting.

For those of you who like to over analyze the episodes on a microscopic level like we do, you may have noticed that little scene in Eko's dream where a bunch of images flashed by before he saw his brother, Yemi, sitting at the computer. Here's a list of what was shown:

- A dead body floating in the ocean.
- A crucifix necklace on the ground.
- The scene with the Other who had the teddy bear on a rope.
- A campfire.
- Jin blindfolded.
- The statues of Virgin Mary on a table.
- The drug plane when Eko and Charlie set it ablaze.
- Yemi in a church.
- The Arrow Dharma symbol on a wall.
- A Holy Bible.
- A close-up shot of Eko's staff.
- Eko looking at Yemi's corpse.
- Closeup of Locke's face.
- Eko looking through the black mist.
- The crucifix on Yemi's dead body.
- The plane Yemi was on, taking off from the runway.
- The truck of soldiers chasing the plane.
- Yemi getting shot.
- The Asian Dharma guy from the first video.
- The Swan Dharma symbol on a wall.

Really not all that interesting, really. But there you have it.

This season sure seems to have stepped up ever since Michael made it back into the picture, starting with the big shocker from last week. I knew Libby was going to eventually die, but it didn't make watching her scenes any easier at all. It was incredibly painful to watch her suffering, and it really bothers me that we may never get a decent background episode for her. Will we ever see why she was in the psych ward with Hurley?

An interesting tidbit in this episode was the appearance of the psychic from Claire's back story. He comes out and admits to Eko that he's a fraud, which sadly unravels what was once a very cool part of Claire's story. He seems to have simply lied to Claire, though I'm not sure if we're to believe that was the one time he really did see something real. Maybe we'll find out in a future episode.

Another reason I was looking forward to this episode was knowing Eko and Locke would get some significant screen time together. I believe these two characters to be the strongest links of the Oceanic survivors, ones who could be the only reason they're all still alive in the first place. They clearly have a connecting with faith and believing that not all is what it seems.

The biggest part of the episode, of course, was the reveal of a new hatch, The Pearl, the one central hatch. So, who are we to believe? Is the orientation video proving the theory right-out, that this is all simply an experiment? Or is the Pearl hatch itself something more than it seems? Where could that drive-up bank teller tube send message off to? I'm guessing the printout that Locke gets is listings of when the "button" is pressed correctly, so will he see any log of when Michael typed to who he thought was Walt? I'm guessing we'll see what Michael saw on that screen next week.

It would have been HUGE if, when Locke turned on all of the television sets, we saw a lot more survivors spread about the island, maybe even another Desmond locked away somewhere. I get the feeling this isn't the last we're going to see of that central hatch.

Anyway, an awesome episode. I can't believe yet another show is almost over until the fall.

Oh, and lastly, I'm sure you must have caught the new Hanso Foundation commercial, now telling you to visit www.sublymonal.com.

When Locke and Eko were in the new hatch, Eko picked up one of the notebooks. It was closed. He opened it and blew dust from the page. How is there dust on the INSIDE of the book?

This probably has nothing to do with anything, but I misspelled the URL and went to http://www.sublymanol.com/

I got a totally different type of site. It is probably just something a fan threw up, but it was very interesting.

All this stuff they are putting on the web site making you spend hours sat in front of your computer trying to figure it all out is just like "pushing the button" in the hatch. It's a psychological experiment. You are being controlled. Here's what I think, I think we should all stop going to that web site, we stop logging in and we stop watching the damn TV show.

But what will happen if we don't?

I'm new to this so please forgive me if I'm being redundant (and I don't download the episodes, so I watch as they happen and that's it): The doctor in the video mentioned something to the Pearl video viewers about a ferry that they can take when they are done. Did I hear that incorrectly? If I did hear correctly, does anyone have any comments on that?

Errr...peoples? The password: Heir apparent is for the Hanso foundation website, which is a good website might I add. Definitly makes you wonder...Anyways, you have to go though a series of steps to actually do "something" with the code. First of all go to www.thehansofoundation.org then go to the newsletter, type in your name(can be fake) while the screens messing up type in (breaking strain) and it will stop, then go to Joops page...

Did you just noticed that the video in the pearl station was made much before than the one in the swan... because of guy's harm and stuff. The experiment in the pearl should last only for 3 weeks... putting the points together, when the video in "Locke's hatch" was made most probably the experiment in the ?-spot had already finished. Was this new video about another of the hatches?! Why doing a new movie for the swan? Let's wait and see...

Go to send a message to Joop and type in "persephane". The screen will go to a galaxy-type image. Connect the circles until a red one appears, then click it. A letter involving Hanso and a problem in Africa appreas. After you read it, click on the name at the bottom for the reply letter. Then click on the bottom name again. What's it all mean? Search me.
