Invasion: Round Up

by Jonathan Toomey, posted May 11th 2006 11:47AM

Invasion; ABC; Eddie Cibrian(S01E21) Holy crap, this show is incredible. This episode had the potential to be the season finale the way it ended... I can't believe what the hybrids are up to. But we still get one more episode next week and I can't wait. With Alias, Lost, and Invasion, ABC has one hell of a Wednesday night line-up right now. Too bad we're only getting it for little while longer.

Last week we left Tom and Russell as they headed back into Homestead to try and stop Szura's plan... whatever it was. Now we know. Using the military uniforms and guns that Tom supplied Szura with, the hybrids are posing as National Guard. They're driving around, picking people up, and dropping them off at this (deserted?) military base. As the hurricane keeps knocking trees down and blocking off roads, Mariel, Larkin, and the kids end up with nowhere to go. Until one of the hybrid patrols drives up. They hop in the back of the truck but by the time Mariel realizes what's going on (I guess they all have some kind of "hybrid sense"), it's too late.

Tom and Russell find one of the patrols too and Tom kills the driver. Using the radio in the truck, they find out where the drop-off point is and the two of them head out there. Meanwhile, Louis and a couple of the other deputies have Dave at gunpoint demanding to know where Tom is. Louis eventually helps Dave take down the other two deputies though.

At the base, Mariel is separated from her family and Szura takes her upstairs to the, I dunno, alien maternity ward? There are dozens of pregnant women and they're all ready to give birth to who knows what. Whatever it is, it can rip through the mother's stomach if it needs to. Remember Christina? Mariel isn't sure what to do but then Russell shows up (he was captured). I found it odd that Szura left him with Mariel. Why wouldn't he throw Russell in with the rest of the non-hybrids?

Now for the biggest part of this episode, I thought the hybrids were going to kill everyone so they had no resistance. Tom even used the word genocide. And they were killing them... just not what I expected. As the rains continued to fall, the "lights" returned. The orangey alien creatures were falling everywhere. The hybrids opened the big doors to the holding bay and then proceeded to push everyone out into the storm. Their plan was to have everyone transformed. That's freaky stuff. But that's how it ended.

Mariel and Russell need to figure out the pregnancy crisis. Larkin, Jesse, and Rose are in with the group being pushed outside. Tom and Kira are figuring out how to kill the power for the complex. And so far... Szura's plan is working perfectly. Next week in the finale, we'll see if it all falls apart.

I'm devastated! I just read that ABC has dropped invasion!!! Is there any chance that another channel could pick this show up?

So abc doesn't want to keep invasion? Oh it doesn't have the same ratings as lost boo frickin hoo! It just started out give a chance. All good shows take time to get noticed or in some cases they end up getting canceled cause the network presidents are crazy. For example arrested development. But if the new station CW picks it up it could still be could for the show cause people will be flocking to watch smallville and other long running shows from the WB and UPN. So if that's that case it's ABC's loss.

I think Invasion is a great show with great suspense. NBC would be smart to keep it around next season!

"So what happens to the percentage of people in that hangar who are sick or otherwise "unfit"?"

I'm guessing they and the alien die during the merge attempt.

I read somewhere today that the Hollywood Reporter is reporting (huh) that the CW is not happy with it's potential pilots, and one of the programs they are looking at for the schedule is Invasion. It's bad news if ABC has already let it go, but maybe good news for a possible pickup from someone else. If it goes, it's a darn shame and I'll be thinking that poor Shaun Cassidy just cannot get a break!

Great episode, as always. I'm so glad our little clan of surviving Invasion watchers keeps getting rewarded with consistently excellent shows.

Interesting way for them to go about spreading their seeds, so to speak... So what happens to the percentage of people in that hangar who are sick or otherwise "unfit"? I guess they'll just be rounded up and executed at the end. Either way, looks like Tom's going to have to do a hell of a lot more than just knocking out the power if he wants to stop this... Can't wait to see what next week brings for two reasons: 1) we'll get the finale, and 2) final schedules come out so we'll get to end the "will there be a season 2" debate once and for all.
