Scrubs: My Urologist
(S05E23) Elliot thinks her relationship with Keith (which at the start kind of creeped me out and then...well...it still creeped me out) might be over. This is very distressing to Carla, who is suffering from an excess of hormones as she gets more and more pregnant. Elliot thinks Keith is weak, largely because he seems to get trampled on every day by Dr. Cox and other interns. Carla even goes so far as to get Elliot, Turk and J.D. together to try and talk Elliot out of breaking up with him. It's no use, though, since she's looking for someone stronger who will stand up for her. While all this is happening, J.D. has noticed a new doctor - or at least someone he thinks is a new doctor, played by guest star Elizabeth Banks. She's a hottie and he starts to flirt with her in typical J.D. fashion (badly). The problem is that she's not actually a new doctor but has been there for five years. We're then treated to a montage of clips of her insterted into various moments from the show to show that she was there and J.D. just didn't notice her. That's because she was married and, as Turk points out, he tends not to notice women with wedding rings.
While he's smitten with her (as evidenced by his use of cute animal phraseology) he comes to find that she's not very principaled. She told a patient he didn't need an operation when in actuality she didn't want to perform the procedure. The patient is frail and an operation could prove fatal and ruin her surgeon's rating. Eventually, though, she performs the surgery because she finds herself caring about what J.D. thinks of her.
Keith does eventually stand up for Elliot. Carla had been mad at her and when she was telling Elliot off Keith came to her rescue. I, like Elliot, admit that I thought it was something Carla had devised to make Keith seem strong and keep him and Elliot together. That wasn't so, though, as it was a rare case of Carla admitting she was wrong and backing down.
If it seems like there wasn't much in this episode that's not the case at all. It was so filled with jokes, both verbal and physical, that it really ranks as one of the best of the season - if not the series. Highlights:
- "Fearatude"
- Dozens of women - including Gift Shop Girl - suddenly appearing to J.D. after they take off their wedding rings.
- J.D. smashing his head into the light box and then getting whacked by the door. That killed me.
- "Zoom zoom zoom."
- Turk hugging Keith and saying goodbye to him after he told off Carla.
