What shows are you going to give up next season?

Maura TierneyThere are just so many hours in a week, and it's getting harder and harder to commit to yet another TV show. And with the announcements this week of all the new shows that the networks will have for us in the fall, I think it's time to give up on certain shows that just aren't doing it for me anymore.

I've already decided to give up on American Idol, so that's one I won't have to worry about. West Wing and Alias are already gone, so that's a load off my mind. I also think I'm going to stop watching ER. I think I told you earlier this year that I was going to keep watching it, even if it has gotten boring, because I had already invested 10 years in it. But I just might be through with it. Of course, if Clooney or Marguiles comes back to the show, or they somehow ressurect Mark Greene or Dr. Romano, I might change my mind.

Law and Order (and to a certain extent, Law and Order: SVU) are way too "ripped from the headlines" now for my liking, so they're probably gone from my schedule. Survivor? Eh. I enjoyed this season, but unless they change it completely, it's over for me.

So what about you? Are there any shows that you've just gotten tired of and don't want to watch anymore, or shows that you want to stop watching to make room for something new that looks promising in the upfronts this week?

I half heartedly gave up ER 2 seasons ago but I was back last season. So, ER is definately gone next season. King of Queens has just become Mean People, Desperate Housewives was gone for me the 3rd ep of the 2nd season. While I'm not thrilled with the way last season progressed, or ended, I'm not ready to give up on Gilmore Girls yet.

These days I primarily watch History Channel, TCM, TNT, USA, TLC and Spike. Works for me!

Too many years ago I surrendered my allegiance to The Simpsons on SUnday night

The CW/WB/UPN already killed off several of its programs by counterprograming

I've given up on Smallville two years ago

Guilty pleasures were: Everwood (I was one of the few who missed watching How I Met Your Mother) and
Gilmore Girls

Last year it was Lost that got Lost

Now this fall:

Law & Order: C.I. against House (Tuesday)
Lost against Criminal Minds (Wednesday)
Crossing Jordan against Ghost Whisperer (Friday)

And that's just a few

No wonder I read books and listen to talk radio!

Hard to say. Many of the shows I liked have been cancelled already. I dropped Amazing Race and Apprentice this year and didn't miss them.

You guys are so funny yet really informative. I have no shows to drop I watch channel 13. However, I do hate commercials of Smallville and I actually became addicted to Everwood watching what I now know to be the last four episodes.

I won't watch CSI, L&O and any other show that thinks that blood and gore is entertainment. How entertaining is murder and sexual assult...not at all to me. Nor any show that thinks that showing people having sex is entertaining....I know that some people do think this is entertainment, but not everyone... and certainly not me. That does not leave much to watch, but I try to find music, comedy or good drama. West Wing was great and I certainly will miss it....best writing on TV.

These are the shows I am keeping: CSI, Medium, Numb3rs, Antiques Roadshow, Boston Legal, Commander-in-Chief, Charlie Sheen.

Most of the other shows have too much gratuitous grossness that causes me nightmares. Disgusting. Cancel Cossing Jordan this is the worse of the pack.

Enough with the reality shows. What happened to the dramas? The police shows? The mysteries? Real storylines that are not based on soap operas? Come on people let's return to the days when it was about quality.

NCIS without Gibbs (Harmon) the show is toast.

hmm...this is a tough one. I never got into Desperate Housewives so maybe that is it. I love all the CSI's, NCIS, Ghost Whisperer, Medium, Grey's Anatomy, Num3ers, Without a Trace, etc. etc. etc. Soooo, as long as I have Tivo and can still set up the dvd and/or VCR, along with a few tv's, I won't miss much of any shows. :-)

Next year probably ER. I feel they are now preaching their politics to us. If I wanted to watch a show about the US not doing enough in Africa, I would watch CNN or Dateline. This is supposed to be a show in an ER in CHICAGO. That lost me.
