The CW and its ugly logo are now on the web

by Joel Keller, posted May 18th 2006 8:33PM
The CW logoNow that the CW has given us a look at their upcoming fall schedule, the only thing that was left in order for them to become a real network was a web site, which went live today. The site is fairly extensive, with individual pages for all the shows and a list of affiliate stations. And it's flashy as hell, with a preview video and everything.

Oh, and see that ugly green color behind the network's ugly '70s-era logo? It's... all... over... the... site. So if you missed the shag carpeting you used to sit on before your kindergarten nap time, go check the site out for a nice reminder.

[thanks to Jeff for the head's up.]

Sorry, it appears the links are broken, but when the CW launched it's website, it had pages for Everwood - Sundays at 8:00 - and Aquaman - Wednesdays at 9:00. You can see a screenshot of the Aquaman page here - http://www.aquamantv.com/

I mentioned to Keith before we did the most recent podcast that the logo looks like something Ron Burgundy would read the news in front of.

Yes, Tammy is correct. Have any of you noticed how Gap is going 70s retro with their "The Gap" background logos.

Personally, I dig the new logo. There's a funkiness to it. And yes it does seem to beg for bean bag chairs and lava lamp accents.

Actually, it sort of reminds me of logo for an imaginary network like one might see on an episode of a show like Columbo during the halcyon Mystery Wheel days.

Does anyone have an email for Dawn Ostroff? I really want Everwood back as well. the cwtv.com doesn't have an email address.

The CW network is going after the young demographic, and the last time I looked in a store that also wanted the young demographic, many of the clothes looked like they were straight out of the 1970s with a few 1980s items thrown in for good measure. To go with a logo that is kind of retro seems fitting for what they are trying to accomplish.

With a new network and a show that many of us didn't know was in danger of cancellation, would you please help us fans who want their show back by letting us know who we need to harass over at the CW -- addresses, emails, a shout out over at EW?

With the resurrection of 7th Heaven, which may have killed the show, bringing back Everwood is certainly a possibility -- I don't get it anyway -- One Tree Hill and Veronica Mars are both lower rated, but I think the move to Mondays did not help -- even though it did superbly last fall in the difficult Thursday slot.

Many of us are at a loss and don't know where to show our support and vent our frustration.

I think the person who designed the logo and the site are stuck in the 70s and can't get out. I just hope the background music they go with is not as fugly.
