Wait a second: The Loop has been renewed?!?

by Bob Sassone, posted May 18th 2006 1:53PM
The LoopI was just reading Anna's post on the FOX upfront, and she reports that The Loop has been renewed for another season. Is this even remotely possible, or some joke? All of the shows - better shows - that FOX could have renewed or added to the schedule (they passed on Andy Richter's comedy, which was picked up by NBC, and that had to at least be as good at The Loop) and they decide to renew The Loop. Hell, where's Stacked with Pam Anderson? They could put them back to back and have a night of so-so comedy!

I guess I'm just shocked. Even if The Loop was better than it is (and it isn't), I would still be surprised it got renewed, because it had "short-lived midseason replacment that you will soon forget" written all over it.

Wow.

I'm a fan of Arrested Development and I liked the loop but not as much. By how I read other TV sites it had a high change of getting picked up but it doesn't mean it will actually air unless a lot of shows are cancelled by fox. Like Tru Calling season 2.

I'm happy it's back.

I like this show too. Another reason to like it - the one blonde girl is pretty hot. I don't mind that the show gets a little formulaic, somehow every episode is funny.

I guess it's like bubble gum, you can grab a stick from the pack when it's offered, as opposed to AD's 19-course meal, that you couldn't get into mid-season(I will miss that though).

This just goes to show you that the people over at Fox have NO IDEA what the hell they're doing.

They should have cancelled this stupid show, and brought back Arrested Development.....

The Andy Richter sitcom was developed for NBC. Initially, they passed, so the producers were going to try to sell it to Fox. But NBC reconsidered and ordered it for midseason before that process got very far.

Add me to the list of people who think the show is good (which I expressed many times on this board before). And I am a fan of quality television (AD included), not crap like CBS Monday (HIMYM excluded) or whatever that Jim Belushi show is called (I know, I just refuse to writ it). I don't know why, but the show makes me seriously laugh out loud at least 2 or 3 times an episode. Philip Baker Hall is genius, and everyone is pretty likable. I'm thrilled it was renewed.

I, too, never understood why Bob was so down on it. If Bob doesn't want to recap it in the fall, I gladly volunteer.

Agreed! The Loop is good!

Plus, how often do you get a show with a theme song from a band devoted entirely to hockey?

Answer: not that often.

Yea I don't understand why you hate the Loop so much either. There are many other shows more deserving of your wrath than this. Sure it's got some problems, like no matter how messed up the situation is, it all gets worked out Thesis manages to save the day. Reminds me of Bewitched for some reason.

But Philip Baker Hall and Mimi Rogers are hiliarious.

I never could understand your aversion to 'The Loop'. I found it far funnier than some of the comedies out there on the "Tiffany" network, CBS. (And those I had in mind are for the most part gone, although KOQ has a mid-season chance.)

The lead was personable, backup support from Hall & Rogers was always on, and it had some great one-liners. My only complaint would have beein in the casting of the brother, but there was nothing about that which would have caused me to damn the whole enterprise.

But like Josh said above, to each his own.

Fox gets rid of Arrested Development and renews "The Loop". Sakes alive. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that "Free Ride" will never grace Fox's lineup again.
